We want to see if you are able to understand what is going on in a small region of the project to the level where you are actually able to bring a positive contribution (fix something).
Alternatively, or complementary to be more exact, you could host online the code you mentioned that you have previously worked on, since its open source license should allow that. We do not accept private mails with zipped code :) It does not matter that the code is old, we just want to have a look at it to make a general impression of your potential.

As I said in my first reply, you should start by downloading XWiki Exterprise and play with it, especially with the document versioning. Next you should set up your work environment. See http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome .
