Hello,
I try to update automatically the avatar of a user when he logs in (pictures are stored in an intranet server)
I checked the login.vm template but it redirects to /xwiki/loginsubmit/Xwiki/XWikiLogin after submitting and i don't know how to edit (if possible) this page/template.

Is it possible for xwiki to simply use the local server php email system
without need of configuration?
The smtp option is useless because these days most organisations use smtp
servers requiring authentication and xwiki is not offering this at present
(an essential IMHO)

Using an xwiki space for help documentation for a product. The issue being that the entire help documentation for an older version of the product still needs to be available for people using that product.
My current plan is to have one main space for all the documentation, then add a new space for each version, and do includes for the proper documents using their revision numbers.
Space versioning would make this easier, or basicallty a space variable that has a record of the revisions of all child documents at the time the space version was... versioned.
My questions are:
1. Is there a better way for me to do this?
2. Would space versioning, or something of the like be easy enough to implement that I could just make my own plugin that handled it. (An intermediate java dev, but a xwiki novice)
3. Should I really be viewing multiple revisions at all? The rollback function works fine, but I've noticed issues in viewing revisions, and I'm wondering whether it was intended only for revision comparison.

Hi
I have noticed there is a "captcha.vm" file in my installation of xwiki.
Does this mean that I can add a captcha to a registration form?
Thanks
Edward
There *is* a CAPTCHA option somewhere. Doesnt appear on my installed products right now but that could be because I've disabled 'public' user registration so it might only kick in then. I'm very new to the product so as far as config goes I dunno, I've just seen it and was confronted with it in a form in Xwiki so it certainly exists, if that helps any.

Hi,
Also there is a missing space (may be it's wanted but i don't think so) in numbered list with more than 9 elements. The '.' is displayed over the first character. I did not try 100 elements but i guess that there will be a problem too

Hi,
I'm trying to combine Xwiki products into an intranet collaboration solution and would appreciate advice on good practices for this. We're talking a manufacturing organisation, about 500 users, divided into a dozen production departments with users working on various departmental and organisation-wide projects.
I was thinking one could have Xwiki Enterprise operating as the portal containing all the common enterprise info, then have Workspaces for departmental document use and Chronopolys for Project management. I'd love to have a single install product but that doesnt seem to be possible as I understand it. I also don't forsee any more wikis than the above 3 being required.
Using the 'quick links' shortcut menu on XE I can add the URLs to the XWS and Chronopolys spaces and provided one saves login details its pretty seamless to transition between the products while working.
At the moment I have the 3 Xwiki products running on separate virtual machine servers i.e. separate IP's, Tomcat6 or Jetty app server, Java6 and Postgresql databases.
I'd like to know how much of this can be practically integrated. I realise I can most likely combine everything into a single VM, running a single app server with different URL paths and separate databases but ...
more importantly how can I get more synergy with the 3 products working together?
Q's like:
1. Could all 3 products run on the same Xwiki database in Postgres or would there be conflict with users, tables, etc. If not all 3 how about just XE and XWS on the same database? Is this possible or am I looking for problems?
2. I'm not sure where the user uploaded wiki attachments are stored, if in the db then ignore this Q, but if they are stored in the OS file system then is it possible to have a common uploaded file space for all 3 platforms?
3. Also, there seems to be some sort of integration possible with Alfresco CMS stored files - is this for XE or could XWS/Chronopolys also access Alfresco docs?
Thanks
Hi!
How can I specify that all users found in AD will map to
XWikiAllGroup?
I do have a group AAA in AD with specific users, and if I specify it
for mapping, all works ok.
// cn=AAA, ou=Group1, dc=domain, dc=com
I also have a group ALL, which contains all groups found (e.g. group
AAA is member of ALL) in AD. If I specify it for mapping, even login
doesn't work.
// cn=Users, dc=domain, dc=com
XWiki Enterprise 1.8.17790
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jerome,
Thanks for your continued interest. I have managed to work out installing Chronopolys on Linux - the double mouse click didnt work but the terminal commands did and its looking 90% good for our application so will go with that for now.
You appear to be part of the xwiki organisation so I'll just throw in my 0.03 FWIW ;-)
Having trialed a fair number of wiki related tools recently, I must admit that Xwiki's approach is a little disorienting to me. Obviously as an organisation you have good reason for how its various offspring are designed, but in my opinion a less confusing approach would be if you offered the market something like:
1. Xwiki enterprise - the core wiki application
then users can select from add on wiki modules to customise things further if they desire.
e.g
2. want project management - then add Chonopolos addin
3. if you want workspaces - then add Workspaces add in
I'm sure you get the idea ...
Obviously it would be nice if all these add ins could play nicely together as well because I can find areas where all 3 of the products could be useful, but if they were integrated that would be so much neater IMO.
Still, please keep on refining an already excellent product.
Really the only plugin missing from my end is a Gliffy flowcharting equivalent of that available for Confluence, so maybe you could encourage Gliffy a bit. I have already asked them and the Mockups developer to think about an Xwiki inline page flowchart tool.
Cheers
> If you are familiar with Chronopolys - what install route would you recommend - Enterprise or Workspaces first?
What do you want to do exactly ?
The jar you refer to (installer-generic) is an installer for a
self-contained Chronopolys application, meaning that you just have to
execute it and you will have a setup wizard to install Chrono.
Same as for XWS, Chronopolys is built on top of XWiki Enterprise
(although they both come with their own custom skins, so it's not
obvious and users do not necessarily realize the application is built on
top of a wiki engine).
Hi,
What you mean by "is not working" ?
I have on my server a problem with Panels (on left side), some are replaced by others after saving and getting back to home page. To save changes you have to edit XWikiPreferences in object editor, click on XWikiPreferences and find the field that contains panels displayed on the left side and save the page (you will find some values like 'undefined' if you had a problem with the wizard)
Hope it helps

Hi
I got the same problem after migrating from 1.8rc2 to 1.8
The problem was that i missed one file to import in the new XAR (In the Xwiki space, a sheet if i remember good).
What i would suggest is to follow the instructions on the upgrade xwiki page to know wich file you must not select when importing.
Also the users adminitration is a link to the sheet in Xwiki space so it doesn't change from one space to another (but i can miss something as i am a newbie in Xwiki) at least for the presentation

Objet : [xwiki-users] Can no longer enumerate users after upgrade
Hello everyone,
After upgrading from XWiki 1.7 to 1.8, I am no longer able to enumerate
users or groups in the XWiki preferences pane. Instead, what I get is an
animated busy bar with the word "Loading..." printed across the top. This
never stops loading, and so I never get a list of users.
The same is true for any page where I need to set access rights. I get
the same thing, except I also get, printed across the top of the page:
$xwiki.jsfx.use("js/xwiki/usersandgroups/usersandgroups.js", true)
$xwiki.ssfx.use("js/xwiki/usersandgroups/usersandgroups.css")
$xwiki.jsfx.use("js/xwiki/table/livetable.js", true)
$xwiki.ssfx.use("js/xwiki/table/livetable.css", true)
I did selectively import the new XAR in order to avoid having to page
preferences, but this appears even on pages that I allowed the new XAR to
replace, like the Sandbox.
I also reused my old xwiki.cfg, after looking at a diff between the old
one and a new one. I don't recall if I changed anything (sorry... it was
getting late in the day).
I am using LDAP to connect to Active Directory. Also, on first run, I
enabled the migration options in xwiki.cfg, but I have now commented them
out.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dan

#-# concerns mostly wiki farms. The exact meaning is that when a user logs

Otherwise, it

Hi Jerome,
Thanks for your very quick response. Trust me to try do things front2back ;-)
I'm more than happy to try it the recommended way <g> no need to swim uphill any more than necessary.
Its just when I went to the 'instructions' link for the generic Workspaces installer the page didnt have any info to work from so then somewhere on the site I think I read that the only difference for between the Enterprise install and Workspaces was to change the final XAR.
i.e. I misinterpreted the docs here: http://workspaces.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/#HInstallingandrunnin…
"Installing and running the WAR distribution
This installation type requires you have a Servlet Container and a relational database installed and configured. You will need to download xwiki-workspaces war distribution from the Download page. The first steps to setting up your installation are similar to installing XWiki Enterprise, so please refer its installation guide. Only, in the concluding step, you will have to install XWiki Workspaces Wiki XAR, instead of the XWiki Enterprise one."
Even re-reading it now - its easy to make the mistake again because one is referred to the Enterprise install guide and if one is not paying complete attention one misses the fact that one needs to apply the Enterprise install rules to Workspace.
Anyway, now that I understand it, I'll try things the XWiki expected way round.
One other question, since clearly you're very familiar with Xwiki. I would like to add xwiki-product-chronopolys-installer-generic-1.0.jar but havent tried to do this yet.
If you are familiar with Chronopolys - what install route would you recommend - Enterprise or Workspaces first?
Thanks

Subject: Re: [xwiki-users] How to create initial Organization Space in Xwiki workspace?
From what I understand you are trying to do something not very orthodox
: installing XWiki Workspaces on top of an existing XWiki Enterprise.
This is doable, but not documented. If you check
http://workspaces.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/#HInstallingandrunnin…
you will see that XWS comes with its own WAR file (since it needs some
extra templates/plugins/config to work correctly).
Note that XWS does embed XWiki Enterprise, so if you install the XWS
war, you have a working XE too, and all the work is done for you. The
only thing that affects XWiki Enterprise when installing XWS are a
couple of velocity templates that XWS overrides (but you need them to
have XWS work properly)
Hi,
now that I'm testing the new WYSIWYG editor in XW 1.8, I notice a
problem:
Each time I open the editor for an existing page, and save ("Save &
View", "Save & Continue") without any change, I get extra empty lines in
my page. Seems to be a bug.e
Jens
Hi,
and thank you, Marius, Vincent and hel.
Your answers helped a lot. Now I have realized that XW 1.8 was launched
and have changed to this version. It seems to solve my problem.
By the way: "xwiki.rendering.syntax" was only a typo in my post, not in
my configuration ;-)

Hello all
I would like to use Lucene as my default search engine. My problem is
that it cannot search "by default" for part of words. Only for single
words. But even knowing that you must know the first letter of what you
are looking for as the * is not allowed as the first character in a
searched sentence
Is it possible to ask Lucene to search for part of words and not only
full words or else to have a tip about how using the star as the first
character ?
Thank you
Christophe

Hi!
My name is Teofil Achirei.
I would like to contribute to XWiki, and I'm interested in integration
projects (XOO, XOffice).
I also want to participate at Google Summer of Code on project "Skin
and template support for XOffice".
I kindly ask you to give me a wiki on myxwiki.org.
I'll use this wiki for:
- my GSOC project (XWord)
- other open source projects
- my graduation project
Thank you very much!

Thanks,
Dan

Hi,
to automate group membership i wrote a Groovy script. It is called
periodically via scheduler.
This script use log4j to write some informations at info and at warning
level to the console and to a database table.
By now we are missing the output. It vanished since XWiki XE 1.6.
Can you tell me how to enable the output again, please?
Thanks.
A simple extract (snippet):
/* Groovy Class: $doc.fullName ([View Code>$doc.fullName?viewer=code]) #*

import org.jboss.logging.Logger;
class UpdateGroupMembershipClass{
def xwiki;
def context;
def doc;
def log; // Logger
void setXWiki(xwiki)
{
this.xwiki = xwiki;
this.context = this.xwiki.getXWikiContext();
this.doc = this.context.getDoc();
this.log = Logger.getLogger("our.organization.XWiki." +
this.doc.getFullName());
log.info("XWiki context initialized.");
}
/* other methods ... */
}

Hi,
I have two classes in separated pages and I want one of them to extend the other. How should I include the parent class?
I tried:
Page 1:
------------------
<%
public class A {
...
}
%>
------------------
Page 2:
------------------
#set($mydoc = $xwiki.getDocument("Include.Page1"))
$mydoc.renderedContent
<%
public class B extends A {
...
}
%>
------------------
But that's not working, i get this error - unable to resolve class A @ line 3.
I also tried to use parseGroovyFromPage(), but I wasn't successful.
So what is the correct way to make it work?

Hi,
I'm feeling a little dumb at the moment since I expected doing the action I'm struggling with to be so obvious as to be almost default, but I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I have not found a specific answer by searching the FAQ or this mailing list so maybe I'm experiencing something abnormal or haven't configured something correctly.
In Xwiki workspaces after installation I get to the page:
The organization's space has not been created yet
As a member of the group of Administrators, you are allowed to create the Organization's own workspace. Click the link below if you wish to create the organization's own workspace.
Create the organization space $newspace.set("spacetype", "workspace")

and I see:

Show the available categories
* General
* Workspaces
* Users
* Groups
$newspace.set("spacetype", "workspace") $newspace.set("spacetype", "workspace")
Click on this button if you wish to create your organisation's space. The organisation's space includes every user on this XWiki Workspaces. It features a blog, a wiki, a file manager and a photo album. You may want to create it if you wish to publish information meant to address all your users at once.
Define your new workspace's basic settings
Space name
Mandatory - You can enter up to 50 more characters for your new space title :
$newspace.display("displayTitle","edit")
Description
Optional - You can enter a short text describing the purpose of this workspace :
$newspace.display("description","edit")
Applications
Choose the applications you want to install in your workspace from the list below :
Access level
Select an access level for this workspace :
$newspace.display("accesslevel","edit")
Color
Choose a background color for your workspace :
$newspace.display("color","edit")
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Its not clear to me how to create this Organization Space.
Apparently the above is giving me the syntax I can use, but where is it entered?
It doesnt appear to be as simple as clicking on the button 'Create the space' because that does nothing for me. I can see the browser showing the ip of the xwiki server when I click but I get no feedback from the server telling me there's a problem or even that it received my mouse click.
Then higher up on the page there's some text with a light bulb which states Click on this button if you wish to create your organisation's space. Well I don't see any suitable button near this text only a button much further down the page - the one I described above.
To get to this point I installed Ubuntu 8.10 server in a VM, added Java 6, Tomcat 6, Postgresl8.3 and setup the xwiki database and xwiki-enterprise-web-1.8.war in the container and also loaded xwiki-enterprise-wiki-1.8.xar default pages. I can login as Admin, create new users, groups, import the Word addin, etc but didnt see much in the way of user workspaces, so then loaded xwiki-workspaces-wiki-1.2-milestone-1.xar which duly overwrote some of the existing enterprise xar default pages and I logged in as the default Admin user.
I'm not getting any errors reported, everything appears to be working, but despite rummaging around the xwiki website I havent found any comprehensive admin doc that explain the way forward for a 1st time admin/user. e.g. http://workspaces.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/ tells me hardly anything. I am using Firefox 3.07 both on localhost Ubuntu and remote client Windows to access XWiki. As far as I can tell Firefox is not blocking any pages from loading. I also tried IE7, same results.
After failing with the above I guessed that maybe the plugin to do this wasnt loaded by default, so from rummaging I guessed that
http://code.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Plugins/SpaceManagerPlugin
might do the trick, so I did:
* Copy xwiki-plugin-spacemanager-1.1.jar to Tomcat-Xwiki's WEB-INF/lib directory
* Edit WEB-INF/xwiki.cfg file
I added
com.xpn.xwiki.plugin.spacemanager.impl.SpaceManagerImpl
to the plugins list
* Restart your XWiki instance
Restarted Tomcat6
Made no difference.
I'm running out of ideas here.
What method *should* I be doing to create the Org space and then obviously following on from this the user sub-spaces?
Thanks
Cheers
Hi,
I'm using the 1.8 version of xwiki and was wondering if somebody could give me a very simple demo of how I can get the table sort snippet to work in the 2.0 syntax,
At the moment I can only get it to work in the 1.0 syntax and I know I'm probably missing something simple!
Thanks very much
P.S. Would it be possible to get this facility (sortable and filterable) incorporated within the new WYSIWYG editor's table wizard?

Hi guys,
is it possible, to have a DBList property be dependent on another when
being inline mode and editing a new page?
Example:
I have DBListProperty A which gets me 1000 selectable entries. I have
DBListProperty B with like 10 entries and by selecting an entry in B,
I want those entries in the A box to disappear, that should not be
selectable. So to say, filter the entries with some other properties.
I only think of some AJAX operations to handle somethiong like this,
but hopefully you guys can give me some hints to point me into the
right direction on how to do this.
Thanx in advance,
Sebastian
Canel that... Should've been to intranet01 instead of localhost

By default XEM access a wiki based on it's host (see
http://manager.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/AccessWiki for more
details). If it's not listed in one of the wikis descriptors, it can't
find it. That said when no descriptor can be found the following rules
are applied:
* if the host is an IP (127.0.0.1, 85.65.12.36, etc.) XWiki select
the main wiki
* else, if the first part of the host name (what is before the
first point) is "www" XWiki select the main wiki
* else, if the first part of the host name match a wiki identifier
XWiki select this wiki
at the end if it still can't find anything he send you to the
configured URL indicating that the wiki you are trying to reach does
not exists (by default it's
http://example.com:9080/xwiki/bin/Main/ThisWikiDoesNotExist in
xwiki.cfg file).
So, two solutions for you here:
- clean way: access the main wiki with the ip if you can or with a
host starting with "www." (like www.xwiki.org) or "xwiki." and add the
right hosts to the main wiki's descriptor
- set xwiki.virtual=0 in xwiki.cfg and restore it to 1 when you
correctly configured the main wiki descriptor
(Just added it to
http://manager.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/InstallationMySQL)
