Hi, I found the GroupService as in: context.getWiki().getGroupService(context).addUserToGroup(user, database, group, context); This GroupService interface allows me to locate users in a group and even add a user to a group. I don't see a method to remove a user from an XWiki group. How to do that in plug-in code? Broken login-link?

I just installed xwiki 1.0-beta-6.2657 on Ubuntu 6.10 using the standalone installer (no changes to any configurations or such) and everything works fine, EXCEPT: The "Login"-link in the top right corner does not work, I get: HTTP ERROR: 404 /bin/login/XWiki/XWikiLogin Not Found RequestURI=/bin/login/XWiki/XWikiLogin If I add "/xwiki" to the start of the URL it sort of works, I can access the login page, but can only log in with the Admin account. (Yes, I have created a normal user account as well.) It seems to me that the first "/xwiki" part of the URL is missing, it's there in all other links but not this one. BTW, same thing occurs with the "logout"-link, and if I add "/xwiki" it works. Any help is greatly appreciated! [Idea] Jboss cache instead of oscache and jboss integration

Hi all, First sorry for posting this in the site without previous discussion in the list, in future ideas section. In our department, we use jboss server as primary application server product, a jboss server ships jboss cache as cache solution, and hiberbate of course. We have extended xwkicache and we have now a jboss cache implementation, due a high workload we have not tested it. Are any issues doing this to pay atention? What about usign jboss hibernate session factory? Regards.

Automatic creation of XWIKI schema?

I can't get XWiki to start because my database has no tables in it. It complains that the XWIKI schema doesn't exist. I understand some people fall back to using a *.sql script to create their schema and tables, but that XWiki -- through Hibernate -- should be able to automatically create the tables it needs. I've looked in my xwiki.cfg and found that the following is set to non-zero: xwiki.store.hibernate.updateschema=1 Is that all there should be to it? I know Hibernate also supports properties to automatically create the schema, but I can't figure out how I would set that for Hibernate within XWiki: hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto=create-drop I'm running under Tomcat 5.5 on Windows XP with Apache Derby in Embedded mode. I can connect to my DB using SQuirreL SQL and confirm that even the XWIKI schema isn't being created. I can manually create it ('create schema XWIKI;') and then the XWiki errors turn into tables not existing rather than schema not existing. I've tried to turn on debugging for com.xpn.xwiki.store in my manually created xwiki/WEb-INF/classes/logging.properties (as per the TomCat documentation), but I can't see any output getting logged (logging in TomCat was already a challenge for me, so that's just making this XWiki problem harder to solve). Slow performance on certain pages after upgrade to beta5

Hi all, We tried to upgrade our production server to beta5 over the weekend, but we noticed much slower response time on the main page. Previous to upgrade, the mainpage came up in less than a second, but with Beta 5 (and now Beta 6), it takes 8-12 seconds (we reverted to xwiki .9). After moving the database to testing and doing some debugging, I think I see part of the problem. The main page shows several news items (ArticleClass items), and it appears that they are the cause of the slowdown. If I comment out all the calls to get information about these items ( ie $newsdoc.display("title", "view", $newsobject) ) the page speeds up significantly (about 1 second per field not retrieved). If I further comment out calls to $xwiki.getLocalUserName, I get another speed up of about 2 seconds (there were two calls per news item: for author and creator). The strange thing is, we saw little or no performance difference between xwiki .9 and 1 with our test databases, but copy the production database to testing and we see it. If we use xwiki .9, it's fast again. We had previously added an extensive set of indexes to the mysql database to improve performance in .9, but dropping/changing/recreating them had no significant effect. I've tried many debugging steps such as turning on hibernate debug and xwiki debug, and can't see any unexpected exceptions on database upgrade., and there's nothing unexpected in xwiki.log. The database is large-ish, 656M, but 601M of that is attachments, and deleting the entire contents of xwikiattachments and xwikiattachment_content has no effect. We have 1300 users listed on the users page, but I have not tried deleting some yet. Disabling stats had no impact on performance. I'm testing on Gentoo Linux, with IBM JDK 1.5, Tomcat 5.5, and MySQL 5. [Proposal] A system to manually manage the state of the wiki page (version, redactor, comment, validation, ...)

Hello the xwiki community, We use Xwiki for a couple of years now as a tool for managing our IT projects. During the redaction of the main project documents, we have a strong need of versionning management - not the xwiki system, but our own one. To be clear, when a wiki page is written some information can be included in it : * Document version * Name of the redactor * Date of the modification * Name of validator * Comment In fact, the xwiki system contains almost all the components, but those information are updated each time a modification is being done, even when the document is a draft and has not be validated. For example, the xwiki version number is automatically incremented whereas the real document version number is still the same. So it can very very useful to integrate a system which can be able to manage manually the different state of the document. Regards Christophe Koehl From - Mon

Vincent, Sergiu, and the whole community: My conversation begun by Gunther Leeb has continued offline and I've agreed to help him implement a solution similar to one I've created, which will probably be generally useful. Ironically enough, we seem to have validated the old adage of the cobbler's children going barefoot - we're working on a feature of a Wiki, and though we have a community of interested users and developers and access to a Wiki, we began by still using a one-to-one email exchange. In repentance thereof, I wish to nail down a page or three on xwiki.org to simultaneously develop, publish, and offer for comment the work we are doing. Where would be the best place to put this? The topic is enhancing the LDAP authentication service implementation in the ways that Gunter needs, which would add a feature to discriminate on values in the LDAP-supplied user information. brain[sic]

Case insensitive search

Hi, I noticed that XWiki does case sensitive search, e.g. if I search for "available", available will be found, but not "Available." How can I make searches case insensitive? Speaking of searching, it not clear to me what happens if I turn on Lucene. Does this replace searching back-end for regular search box, or I have to add new page for searching? Regards, v Zeljko

Internet explorer and WYSIWYG

Hi All, I've been getting some strange results with WYSiWYG since Beta1, but have never been able to reliably test it. Effectively, here's the problems as reported from users (bear in mind these were appearing as random until this morning). Before logging the issue, I thought I'd check if anyone else has had it (and maybe could be some config problem): * User creates a news item (standard xwiki news page) using wysiwyg. Adding some color to certain words to highlight actions, etc. * Save item. * User (same or other) views the item, all is fine. * User edits the item, and two issues arise immediately * First, all text is changed to match a random (usually first) color chosen for any word in the text. * Second, a large chunk of the data is missing. This only happens with Internet Explorer 6. Firefox 2.0 and 1.5 do not exhibit the problem. Stylesheet viewed on login with restricted access

Hi everyone, I'm tryin' to deploy a private xwiki, so XwikiGuests can't see/edit any wiki's pages. So I have to give specific pages access rights to login/register ... pages Unfortunately, I cant' manage to view these pages as a xwikiguest with the associated stylesheet :) I've seen this previous post : http://mail-archive.objectweb.org/xwiki-users/2005-07/msg00045.html But it's pretty old ... What I tried to do is to give a view access to xwikiguest on http://myserver/xwiki/bin/view/XWiki/DefaultSkin, which is the skin I use by default. But it doesn't seem to fit. LDAP -or- internal user management

Hi, Using XWiki 1.0B3. After switching to using LDAP (using our eDirectory), the current user access management behavior that I am seeing is, that 1. I can login with a user/pwd authenticated against LDAP/eDirectory. If the user does not already exist in XWiki, the user appears to be created. 2. A user, created in XWiki CANNOT Login anymore, if he/she is not an LDAP user. (Why is that?) 3. The old passwords do not work anymore for users with a matching entry in XWiki and LDAP. (ok) Why can't I add user per hand if I use LDAP? This would at least allow some Workaround for some other limitations and give the administrator a way to allow users that for some reasons do not get an entry in the LDAP. Can I hope for XWiki 1.0 to include the handling of an LDAP group for authentication? I have read a blog mentioning LDAP group support being planned for 1.0. Is this still the case? Message resources

Greetings, There is a number of ApplicationResources_xx.properties in XWiki and it looks like all of them are different (contain different set of keys). Both ApplicationResources.properties and ApplicationResources_en.properties are in english and are mostly identical except for ~70 missing keys in _en file. Given that, I have two questions: 1. What is the "most supported" message resources file? 2. Are all messages from .properties used in XWiki, or some are redundant? If the latter, are there plans for removal of unnecessary keys for 1.0release? -- Best regards, Pavel

Creating my own skin

Hi everybody, I've started using xWiki a few weeks ago and now I want to make it look the way I want. So I'm trying to create my own skin. I read the Admin guide<http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Skins>about it, plus other mails but I have to say it's not an easy task. I don't really know where to start because I don't understand all the css files. xwiki10b1 has 23 css files but I think only 11 are used. Am I right ( style.css; elements.css; classes.css; xwiki.css; wiki.css; page.css; rss.css; screenlayout.css; microformats.css; presentation.css; colorsblack.css;) ? If yes, what are the other ones used for (chw.css, colorsblue.css, customcoloes.css, style1.css...) ? Why is page.css empty, is it the one to fill ? In other words, which css should I change if I want another layout, another font, colours.... Thanks for you help, Antonio

export/import Errors & Questions

I'm using 1.0-beta-5.2310, using the stand-alone install. The question: Is there a way to export (then import into another installation of XWiki), a particular space? The errors: I'm also having difficulty doing a "normal" import (which I assume includes the entire wiki), from one installation into another. Hi Sergiu I would like to keep stuff in the Wiki. But when management becomes involved, politics start to cloud the optics. I work in a development shop that is trying to be Agile and still hold onto the good things in RUP particularly the Rational Tool set. In practice these are not that compatible, and unfortunately, Wiki is not winning at the moment in the mix. I did actually try the XSL-FO route in converting some Wiki documents to RTF. I was not totally happy with the results. Not sure where things broke down, but on a simple page that had mixed numbering\bulleting, i.e. <ol><li><ul>, the produced results were not very close the original wiki content. Just straight PDF output of the same pages is not exactly like the original displayed in Wiki. Granted, we are using a 0.9 version of xWiki, so maybe things are better now in 1.0. You can either make a groovy script for this, which can be run from a command line, or use the export feature in the new xwiki. - You can the process the documents as any XML file. Either make a program that uses DOM or SAX to process it, or write an XSLT stylesheet to transform it into any other XML-based document format (Open Document, DocBook or the new MS Word), or even XSL-FO to generate PDF and RTF files. - What's more, you can make an automated task for this, to be triggered once every week. Hi Vincent This is something I would greatly appreciate being worked on. I recently tried to work on a simple app - but got stuck on the use of Classes and Objects. I was trying to model use cases. For this, it seemed like I should have a parent object, UseCase, and then two child objects UseCaseStep and UseCaseStepExtension. The children would have 1:n relations from the parent. With the limited documentation about building XWiki apps, I couldn't easily see how this could be managed. It seems like all the pieces are there to get this to work - but too much work for a newbie to figure this out on my own. I'm putting the thoughts we had here as a memo for ourselves but also to let everyone know what we'll be working on.
