Trying to resolve differenced from Media Wiki to XWiki - page creation

HI, i know this probably "THE" dumbest question you've gotten, but I have media wiki installed, admittedly its my first wiki experience. To create a document there I search for a file or click "GO", if nothing exists I have an option to create that document, and then I go from there. I've installed XWiki because of its great features, like PDF generation, RSS feeds, blogs, etc... What is the equivalent in XWiki to create a document? Thanks, -- slán, joe

Problems found loading data into postgresql db

I am trying to run Xwiki with Postgresql 8.1 (jdbc3 driver) and Tomcat 5.5 on a Linux (Debian unstable) system. I loaded up the xwiki-pgdb.tgz files and they ran through psql correctly. I then started tomcat, and in the log found complaints about some of the fields being set from boolean expressions. PG 8.1 is much fussier about the right data going into the right field type than older releases. The following field in the following tables needed to be changed from INT(2) to boolean, and the corresponding initialisation values in the startup data changed from 0 and 1 to true and false. Table Column xwikiclassesprop xwp_unmodifiable xwikidblistclasses xwl_multiselect xwikidblistclasses xwl_relational xwikislistclasses xwl_multiselect xwikislistclasses xwl_relational If anyone wants revised versions of these files with all the changes made I am happy to send them, but as one of them is over 1MB I think that attaching them to this email would be wrong - even if compresses. I found that xwiki syntax can not do all the things as in HTMl format. I use Open Office (by SUN) to convert Word document into HTML, then paste HTML into xwiki pages. It looks good. It happens when people are working on different pages on the same site. It is not easy for us to repeat and identify the cause, I wonder if other users have notice this. Sometimes, after speed loss, the site fail to function. Since multiple people working/writing to the same site is a part of using Wiki, we need to keep the sites perform reasonably good. Potential problem with laszlo plugin configuration

Hi guys, A few words to warn you about a potential problem with a badly configured laszlo plugin. First I have to say that the default configuration (right out of the box) does not cause this problem. The problem occurs if you use a blank path like : xwiki.plugin.laszlo.path= in xwiki.cfg. I have used this configuration line for several weeks with no problem on a linux based system, using a 'non-system' tomcat (ie a tomcat launched by hand using a non root user ...) Then some Windows (tm) users copied my xwiki.cfg file, and problems started to occur. Each morning they were unable to boot, the system complaining about missing boot.ini and system dlls ! It took us several days, and several launches of the XP console tools ;-) to realize that the problem was in the flushCache method of the laszlo plugin. This method will delete all the files cached by the plugin, which is a good thing per se, but if the plugin path is blank, all files in "/" will be deleted ... if you are Windows user, starting tomcat via a service, then ... all files in / will be deleted, which is not what you want ... So, the bottom line is, do not use a blank path for laszlo plugin ! cheers, Seb. PS : CC to dev list in case laszlo plugin maintainers are interested ...

Saving one object at a time.

Is it possible to save one object at at time? I have looked at the template code for the "edit object" action and found that ALL objects of a particular document are loaded and when the "Save Objects" action is initiated, ALL the objects are sent back in an HTML Form. I have also looked (succinctly) at the XWiki Java code (in the "web" folder of the SVN) and in doing so, I am lead to believe that a *single* object can not be saved independantly from the whole document and all its objects. Getting back to document cloning..

Changing date of an Xwiki news (ArticleClass)

Hi, In order to migrate a website to XWiki, I wanted to insert old news in XWiki and then change the date to match the true date of the news (and not having all news of the same day). This will allow to use XWiki for archives, etc. I don't want to change the date by using direct access to the database, but use velocity commands. Then, I tried : #set($mydoc = $xwiki.getDocument("MyPage")) #set($xdoc = $mydoc.getDocument()) #set($date = $xdoc.getDate()) Current date : $date Updating date : #set($milli = $xwiki.parseLong("1155311178410")) #set($tmpDate = $xwiki.getDate($milli)) $xdoc.setDate($tmpDate) $xdoc.setCreationDate($tmpDate) But it doesn't work (the news is still displayed with the wrong date) as it should modify only the in-memory document. By displaying the $xdoc.isFromCache() value, it is true. Then, I tried $xwiki.xWiki.saveDocument($xdoc,$context.context) But it didn't work neither. What could I use to modify the date of a news (without modifying directly the database). Regards, Florent

Programming Access Right Issue

Dear All, I use the latest version of xwiki/branches/XWIKI_STABLE_0_9_1300. I've got an issue with the programming access right since I can't allow a group of users to use such of methods: $doc.getDocument()... In fact, I use a XWiki Farm configured with about 20 virtual wikis. On the primary wiki, I've set the Programming access right to a group called Admin (used to adminitrate all the wikis). On a virtual wiki, when I set the programming right to a local group, it doesn't work since the response of $doc.getDocument() is null. Moreover even the owner of the wiki can't use that method. Finally, I've noticed that if I set the programming right to xwiki:XWiki.XWikiAllGroup, it'd work but that's not convenient since any registered user can use programmatic function. XWiki Athentication Integration

Hello, We're currently working on integrating xwiki in an educational plattform. That means, we need to provide an xwiki-page for each course. We have retty much all methods laid out and most of it working, the only thing we are still not sure about handling is the automatic login, before a user gets to see a specific xwiki-page. Adding users, groups and setting the permissions (in the xwiki) is all dealt with already - the only thing that is missing is the automatic login. Is this possible with the existing methods or do we have to write our own authentication-service? If so, is there sample code or anything you could point us to how to proceed? An option we were contemplating was, posting the login data to the actual xwiki login form in the background (similar to what the curl-library provides in php), but this might just be unnecessary, if there is a certain existing method we can utilize for that.
