You can check locally, *before* editing and re-saving a document:

syntaxId element)

Can you paste the value for the xwiki.rendering.syntaxes setting from
your xwiki.cfg?
Do the XWiki 2.0 and 2.1 syntaxes appear in the syntax list in the
Document Information panel?
