Thanks Cathy for pointing me in the right direction,
Just to update I was able to fix this by adding <meta
http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge"> to htmlheader.vm.
This
forces Internet explorer to use the latest rendering engine that it has
available.
