Paul,
thank you. I managed to fix it:
1) First I added Hibernate to Glassfish using the "update" function in the admin
web gui on port 4848. That was pretty easy.
2) Next I followed all steps on
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/InstallationPostgreSQL (since I
already have PostgreSQL running).

Sandor,
that message says your Hibernate config is not correct. Have you tried
adjusting it?
