Is it really an objective of the 7.4 or might it be moved to another later
release ?
Can I do about it beside waiting for 7.4 to be released ? Can I upgrade a
component myself as a workaround ?

Looks like http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-8274. From what I
understand the image format is too recent for the old FOP 1.1 version
we are still using.

I can't say for sure that the size of the images in those pages is the

Have you already seen this problem? I think I've found similar issues
but
for version 4.X back in 2012, though it was about
"bad" PNG images then.
