Nope it is not the cause of the problem. By default, in view mode, $doc.display($prop.getName()) displayed between strong tag. Have a look at the stored content of that property ($doc.getValue($fieldName)) and you will probably notice that there are instructions (**something**) in it to make it bold. If this is true, edit the property accordingly... select all the text, bold it and then un-bold it again in an effort to get rid of all traces of bold styling in your content.
