Yes we have a general problem for all parts of the wiki that create
new documents with content since the underlying code creates code in
1.0 syntax.
We need to find all these places and make sure they explicitly set the
syntax to 1.0 (or 2.0 if we change what they generate).
Would be great to have jira issues on this at
http://jira.xwiki.org.
Can you create one?

Hm, nothing weird in here, indeed. I guess this could be a syntax
problem, since mixing 1.0 and 2.0 is not so well tested yet. Can
you try
setting the default syntax back to 1.0 and see if it works well?
I've had similar problem. This works this way:
1. I've turned default syntax to 2.0
2. creating new user creates a page with syntax (regarding macro
embeding)
from 1.0 syntax
You can fix it by:
1. turning back default syntax to xwiki/1.0 (for new users)
2. change syntax for users created with xwiki/2.0 by opening url
http://your.wiki/xwiki/bin/edit/XWiki/username?editor=wiki
Then you can change the syntax in right panel.
