I think I just found the problem ...
Instead of :
#set($findWQL = "
from doc.object($classname) as qat
")
... Write this :
#set($findWQL = " from doc.object($classname) as qat ")
It seems the XWQL parser does not like carriage-return in queries at all
... :)
