Yes, the image exist and the wiki syntax is:
[[image:Desert.jpg]]
But I have discovered what caused this. In my "Right" Wiki options I
had set the option " Prevent unregistered users from viewing pages,
regardless of the page or space rights". When I take off this options
the image export feature works fine...
Would it be qualified as a bug?

Hmm what version of XWiki are you using? AFAIR I've fixed this in 5.0 or
5.1.
