Elsa, depending on your use case, would using tags be an option?
I have a bit difficulty explaining the difference between tags and
spaces in less than two sentences. Most importantly: a page can have
multiple tags but can only belong to one space. Belonging to a space
defines the URL and the rights a page has.
As Marius said, hierarchy through the parent-setting could be an
excellent solution as well.

Nested spaces are currently not supported. You can achieve something
similar using the parent-child relation. See
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Features/PageEditing#HSettingthepa…
. You can check the tree view on Main.AllDocs page on your wiki.
Hope this helps,
Marius
