No, i didn't copy it.there is no need to do it.
I just tried on my installation.
I think it's your tomcat or your jdk who have problems
try with a fresh installation of both.

Oh, really? You copied catalina.jar to WEB-INF/lib and it works? I tried it
with the newest version of tomcat 5.5.17. But I always get this
ClassCastException. Perhaps I should reinstall xwiki and all these things.
