Did you open a bug?

well there are a couple of issues here. First, there are still
browsers that don't support svg (although they are only a few and not
the main ones). Second, there is a bug in the SVG macro that prevents
links in certain browsers, like Chrome. So if SVG support was native
and transparent, then your experience would be even across the board.

Hello Dan,
I believe the Batik library is used for printing to PDF only, but I
could well be wrong.
You can use an SVG image that you upload as you would upload a png
image. This will simply embed it within the html page and let the
browser render it. This works since recent versions of XWiki (maybe 6?).
I doubt this uses Batik.
Isn't that sufficient?
At least, to my eyes, this is a very important use case for all the
technical documentation we write.

It is my understanding that XWiki includes the Apache Batik library to
handle
SVG content, so my question is why does XWiki not handle SVG content
natively (without the SVG Macro), and why does the browser have to support
SVG? With Batik, shouldn't XWiki be able to render the SVG without the
help
of the browers?
