Anyway, I can't reproduce your problem with firefox 3b5 on linux (ubuntu 8.04) on 1.4-SNAPSHOT or 1.3-SNAPSHOT. I tested your exact text ([ test > FILE:///d:/test/fichier.pdf ]) and I have a correctly formatted XHTML.
