for the advices. Now I could install the menu application
without problems and every thing works well.
The menu is installed within a right pane and the first impression is
very promising. But I am missing one feature: I would like to be able to
place one entry for a certain document in the menu and for all child
documents of the document child entries should appear automaticaly under
that entry of this top document in the menu. So the menu would display
the hierarchy of the document tree starting at a certain document.
Any ideas how to achieve this?

saying that for the Menu Application you need to copy just the content
of the menu macro from the examples (as the Menu Application takes
care of putting {{menu ...}} before/after).
