In term of roadmap all I know is that this is not planned for 1.9. I'd
say there's a good chance it could be done in the following release.
At the moment I can only get it to work in the 1.0
syntax and I know
I'm probably missing something simple!
You can still do it the old way using the {{html}} macro.

P.S. Would it be possible to get this facility (sortable and
filterable) incorporated within the new WYSIWYG editor's table wizard?
Once XWIKI-2658 is done yes I believe this will get incorporated at
some point in the wysiwyg editor.
