Hi James,
First it's a bad practice to hijack someone else's thread unless
there's relation with your problem and the "History throws exceptions".
I am not aware of your backslash problem. Could you tell me more about
it? I'm especially interested since I've been rewriting the xwiki
rendering subsystem and I'd like to see what your problem was and
whether it's the same or not with the new rendering.

XWiki was pretty and had some cool functions. But I needed it to be
easy to use and in the environment that I was designing it for
backslashes are used a lot.
I would hope that this might be resolved some day. Or at the very
least put somewhere up front so that time is not simply wasted.
