Hi,
Why using both velocity and Groovy in Xwiki?

XWiki offers the possibility to use Groovy in wiki page (allowing the
use of 3rd parties java libs to connect to external systems for
example) but relies only on velocity for its own needs.

Basically you decide with scripting language you want to use but since
using groovy is more powerful you have to have programming rights for
using it.
In the future we may add more scripting languages or templating
engines such as freemarker, jython, etc.
