Hi everyone, first, a compliment for the developers of XWiki, it seems to be well done and very promissing. I just starting using XWiki. I created a wiki at XWiki.com and now downloaded it to first run it at my localhost then later at my server. I have a couple of short question. Please forgive me if they are obvious questins or if they have been posted and discussed already. 1. When I start XWiki at localhost, I seem to be logged in. I see "Hello Ashraf" on the upper right corner. There is not an Edit function under "More Actions" link though, so I can not edit or add pages. I registerd a new user, logged in with the new account but it is the same, cann't edit either. Why that? What should I change in order to be able to edit contents of pages? Note, I can edit pages if i am logged in as admin. 2. In the installation instructions, it says: * The default admin user is Admin with password admin. Is it possible to change those default values? 3. Surfing around in Xwiki, online as well as local, seems to be slow! is Java responsible for that? Why? I've seen other java-based wikis that are faster than this! 4. How can I remove users ? is it possible at all? Thanks a lot, Ashraf
Ashraf - I too have an XWiki install locally and think it's great...

I just checked and get the same results on mine so I figure that's normal for out of the box, so I think you need to create rights: http://www.xwiki.com/xwiki/bin/view/Doc/HowDoesRightsWork ...and above that page is the FAQ where there are more pages on rights.

I don't know about changing the "default", but to change the password, the Admin profile page can be edit'ed and that password changed: http://<yourxwiki.org>/xwiki/bin/view/XWiki/Admin
3. Surfing around in Xwiki, online as well as local, seems to be slow! is Java responsible for that?
I've noticed the online is sometimes slow too, but our local install runs fast...
4. How can I remove users ? is it possible at all?
Just delete the user's profile page (see FAQ). HTH, -kenk
Hi Kenk, everyone, thanks for the reply. I missed the HowDoesRightsWork page before. Now I got it. That brought me to another question though. I am looking at the user's Access Level table, (got there by hitting Admin > XWiki.XWikiUsers <http://localhost:8080/xwiki/bin/view/XWiki/XWikiUsers> > XWiki.user ) before this user has been given edit privileges, The table looks like: Groups Access LevelsUsersAllow/DenyXWiki.XWikiAdminGroup Allow edit XWiki.user Allow What does that mean, why is there an "edit" in the access level column although the user can not edit anything at this stage? Giving user edit permission by admin does not change the entries in the table at all!! Should it not be view instead of edit before? Or the entries have a different meaning than whau I am thinking. Ashraf - I'm dealing with user rights too. It *sounds* from this:
I am looking at the user's Access Level table, (got there by hitting Admin XWiki.XWikiUsers > XWiki.user ) before this user has been given edit privileges,
that you are adding rights objects to the XWiki.user "page", whereas that should only be done to the page(s) or "space" where you wish to define rights. To do this: As an Admin open the "More Actions" drop down menu and choose either "Page Access Rights" or whatever access rights and then you will add rights objects to the appropriate pages. I can't tell however whether you were already doing this. This table:
The table looks like: Group -- Access Levels -- Users -- Allow/Deny XWiki.XWikiAdminGroup / Allow / edit / XWiki.user / Allow
can be tricky. "XWiki.XWikiGuest" and "XWiki.XWikiAllGroup" are opposites but in some cases the all-group must be added along side groups that you create in rights objects, so those 2 entities are not equal by usage. So you might need to add "XWiki.XWikiAllGroup" to the rights object you were testing with. -ken
