Hi devs,
Here’s the outcome of a discussion I had with Caty/Edy on IRC + addition of some elements of my own.
The idea is to clarify our strategy for the “More Actions” menu.
So here’s a proposal:
* The More Actions menus is actually a "More" menu since it doesn't contain only actions. Specifically it contains 2 types of links:
** Actions such as Export, Annotate, Print, Share
** Information about the page (they're not actions): History, Comments/Annotations, Children, Attachments
* The "View Source" entry is not placed correctly and should be moved to the information section
* The "Information" entry could be renamed or be made more specific since the whole section of the menu is about information about the page. It used to contain children but that's been separated so all it contains now are included pages and backlinks. These could be transformed into 2 viewers: one for includes pages and one for backlinks
* The extradocs tabs do not need to match the information section of the "More" menu. We only display in the tabs the most important actions.
* Idea: In order not to have too many tabs and to simplify the UI, we could decide to remove the Information one and have "Included Pages" and "Backlinks" only as menu entries.
WDYT?
Thanks

Hi devs,
In the past it was possible to see the space index even when on a page that didn’t exist.
We’ve lost this feature when we introduced the children/siblings menu entry at the page edition level (in the ‘other’ menu on the right).
We have 2 choices:
A) Keep it like this
B) Display the ‘other' menu and children/silbing entry even when on a page that doesn’t exist.
The rationale for B) is that XWiki allows creating pages inside pages that don’t exist, so even if you’re on a non-existing pages, it’s still interesting to be able to see children/siblings.
A use case I got today:
* I was on Admin.WebHome. There were 53 children doc.
* I renamed Admin.WebHome with children to another space
* The rename failed but Admin.WebHome was moved
* I wanted to quickly list the children of Admin.WebHome that were not moved.
Of course I could have navigated away and opened the drawer to go to AllDocs and then filter on Admin but that’s extra work. I was looking for a children LT view and realized it wasn’t displayed because I was on a non-existing page.
WDYT? What do you prefer between A) and B)?
Thanks

Hello sir ,
For the past few days, I had examined and read the documents you mentioned
about RedPen Integration in XWiki.
Since I am new to XWiki, I also researched about XWiki itself.
I was able to extract the following information :-
1.) XWiki is a free wiki software platform written in Java with a design
emphasis on extensibility.
2.) It is large Scale structured Wiki.
3.) Can make Page Editing (like wikipedia) easy & fast.
4.) Can help to change the Wiki Layout .
5.) Easy link integration . Can change the Wiki layout also.
some Advance features :-
1.) Can integrate Code also through it.(simple scripts can be included in
the wiki pages like
python,velocity,etc).
2.) Xwiki allows us to include META-DATA in the pages.
How it works :-
1.) Xwiki core has many API's.
2.) There are different Classes & each class can have different instances
or Objects.
3.) In XWiki there is possibilty of adding Objects like :- Tag Object , etc
4.) Application in Xwiki = set of Pages (Classes , Objects ,...).
The Current Idea for GSOC :-
The Idea is to integrate RedPen inside XWiki.
What is RedPen??
1.)RedPen is a proofreading tool that helps writers & developers to write
Technical documents or manuels
without any error.Basically, it improves the quality of documents.
2.) Can only be used for natural languages not computer languages.
Why to use in Xwiki??
In many cases , XWiki users had to write some Natural language documents ,
so in order to reduce the error ,
a RedPen integration would be great.
How??
1.) There can be a RedPen plugin in Xwiki, Which will list out all the
errors when the user will save the
documents.
2.) RedPen does this , by using different validators.
3.)RedPen supports the following validators.
1.)SentenceLength
2.)InvalidExpression
3.)InvalidWord
4.)SpaceBeginningOfSentence
5.)CommaNumber..etc
According to our requirements , we can insert more types of Validators.
RedPen users can extend RedPen by creating new Validators. (In JAVA)
I also tried to read "REDPEN INTELLIJ IDEA PLUGIN".
It is easy to install RedPen Plugin in it , but sir can you help me a
little on how to basically integrate it
to XWiki. I need some help in this case.
I tried searching on JIRA , but was to able to extract relevent info from
there.
It would be great , if you could guide me little. I am willing to learn new
Technology if needed.
Also, what are the things that should be included in the GSOC proposal (I
need some help in that also)
Looking Forward for your Help , reviews & suggestions.
Thank you.
regards,
Nitish Chauhan
The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of XWiki 8.0.
This is the first release of the 8.x cycle. This version introduces a
new experimental minimal XWiki distribution and a new Distribution
Wizard step to create the first user with administration right instead
of importing the Admin user. It also adds many improvements related to
nested spaces on copy and rename features, location picker, link
syntax. Various new option have been added to the chart macro and as
usual you will find many more improvements in the detailed release
note.

Hello sir,
I am interested in this project because the Idea is really nice. Working in
this project will definately horm my skill & I will learn a lot of new
things.
I find myself the right person in persuing this project because :-
1.) I have good experiance in Android Development.
2.) I am very much willing to learn new technologies from others.
3.) I had recently worked on Wikipedia Mobile editor android app
.(WikiMedia API).
4.) I am passionate for Software Development.
5.) I will fully devote my time & skills for this project.
Looking forward.
Thanks,

Hi devs,
I’d like that we agree on a rule, which is to put all our xwiki.org customizations inside a XWikiOrg space (for the main wiki and all subwikis). I’m not talking about apps but about pages to customize the UI such as skin, color themes, panels, UIX, etc.
I need to create some UIX for the quick search on subwikis so I’m going to start this now.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks
