I don't think so.. plus each user needs to get it from the tour. There is
also a big difference between and always visible tree and a icon you can
click..

taking space too which could be better used by other things (if you’re in
workgroups flavor you're probably more interested by apps).
It also works for documentation.
The tree in my view would only be for the main Wiki. Subwikis for
workgroups would have the usual apps.

that the tour will help on that but it may be not enough potentially.
It's not enough in my view. I'm quite convinced on my side that the tree
would help navigate the content especially initially

Hello,
The pdf macro that you installed is for visualizing the pdf documents, not
for transforming them into a wiki page (importing their content as a wiki
page). That's what most of the extensions that you find under the "pdf"
search do.
For importing a pdf document as a wiki page, you should try the office
importer
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Office+Importer+Applic…
. This application is bundled by default in recent versions of XWiki, so
don't need to install anything, you'll just need to configure it properly.
The documentation mentions it imports PDF documents, so it should do what
you want (I personally didn't use it with pdf documents but it works fine
with other office documents).
Office importer application needs a running open office / libre office
server installed and running on the server on which XWiki is running,
please read carefully installation instructions here
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Office+Importer+Applic…
especially the parts about configuring the office server.
Enjoy,
Anca

Hi xwikiers,
Here is a new article for the xwiki.org's blog:
"Your new Identity Provider: XWiki!"
by me
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Blog/Your+new+Identity+Provider+XWiki
This is a short introduction to OpenID Connect and advertisement for
the new OpenID Connect provider and authenticator extensions with a
short tutorial on how to use them.
If you have something XWiki-related that you would like to share on
xwiki.org's blog, please see my previous mail on how you can easily do that:

Hi devs,
On http://extensions.xwiki.org, a lot of applications have been released
for many times and the Release Notes began to pollute the documentation
page with useless information (e.g.:FILEMAN-19: The word "attachment" is
misspelled).
I propose to keep displayed the Release Notes only for the latest
development cycle and find a way to collapse for the others.
WDYT?
Thanks,
Alex
The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of
XWiki 8.2 Milestone 1.
This version does not contains much changes because most committers
were working on contrib extensions. It still introduced a new
administration UI to help managing wiki syntax components.
You can download it here: http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/Download
Make sure to review the release notes:
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/ReleaseNotes/ReleaseNotesXWiki82M1
The following people have contributed code to this release (sorted
alphabetically):
Anca Luca
Clemens Robbenhaar
Eduard Moraru
Ecaterina Moraru (Valica)
Guillaume Delhumeau
katpavlova
Marius Dumitru Florea
Medjdoub
rnveach
Sean Whalen
Sergiu Dumitriu
Thomas Mortagne
Vincent Massol
Thanks for your support

Hi devs,
WDYT about removing the old Radeox macros from e.x.o?
Rationale: they’re confusing (since Radeox has been removed from the platform) and I don’t think anyone is interested in them anymore. Note that if you install the 1.0 rendering you’ll still get them anyway. They just won’t be documented but I don’t feel it’s a big deal at all. An alternative (more work) would be to move the page on some old.xwiki.org wiki...
Thanks
-Vincent
Hello XWiki Developers,
Recently the following thread - [xwiki-devs] [VOTE] Governance changes for
xwiki.org - introduced some governance changes for XORG.
I’m proposing to handle point A/ : Implementing a form on XORG (work
already started by Vincent and Caty) and creating an email thread to manage
the XWiki onboarding.
Here is what I’m proposing to do.
Use the XWiki SAS Marketing Automation Tool, Marketo
<http://www.marketo.com/>, to automate some email messages after an XWiki
Download.
According to our governance 2 kinds of messages can be pushed to the XWiki
download form DB members:
1. community related emails
2. business related emails
*This thread is about discussing the community-related emails.*
I would like to send automated emails on behalf of the XWiki development
team.
This is why I’d like your agreement on the flow below:
1. Send an email right after the download: « Get started with XWiki »
2. Wait for a week and then send a « Get the most out of your XWiki »
email
3. Wait for another week and then send a « What do you think about
XWiki? » email
Below is the content I would put in these emails:
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
*# Email 1*
Object: Get started with XWiki
Body:
Hello,
Thank you for downloading XWiki. We hope you'll enjoy using it.
In order to get the most out of your XWiki instance, we invite you to read

Hello,
We hope everything is fine with your XWiki and that you managed to reach
your objectives by using it.
We strive to improve the XWiki product all the time, that is why we value
your feedback.
Would you take some time to tell us what you think about XWiki by
completing this 2-minutes survey? link to a Google survey. t would be great
if you could take some time to tell us.
You should also know that you can sponsor the development of a feature you
would like to see in the XWiki product by contacting [[XWiki SAS>>

one of the [[sponsoring companies>>

Hi devs,
This looks like bad news for our VFS API (our replacement and generalization of the previous zipexplorer plugin).
We need to test if it still works in XWiki 8.1 (which requires java 8)…
So globally we’re in a bad shape with our choice of using TrueVFS because right now there are 2 important issues:
* Ability to set permissions, see http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-12912
* This potential java 8 issue
Thanks

However, this would require some serious amount of time and currently I just can’t do that. Things may change in winter, but I don’t know for sure.
