Great that you finally worked on this :)
Note that in the same subject old rendering engine is planned from
deprecation and contrib move in 8.0 too.

It's been more than 1 year since we started
this thread and we still have
the TinyMCE editor bundled in the XWiki WAR. I just created a branch to
remove it

Note that besides the files located in resources/js/xwiki/wysiwyg/tinymce/*
there are many other files (Velocity templates, JavaScript code, CSS styles
in the skin, Java test page objects) that reference the TinyMCE editor and
which had to be updated (see the branch). This makes the creation of a
"TinyMCE Editor" extension that can be installed, even manually, pretty
hard. I'm in favour of simply removing the TinyMCE files and its references
(see the branch). For the XWiki 1.0 documents, there will be an automatic
redirect to the Wiki editor. So we simply say that we don't provide a
WYSIWYG editor for the XWiki 1.0 syntax any more.

I think we should wait 1 more month and do this cleanup in 8.0.
+1 to say we don’t provide a XWiki 1.0 WYSIWYG editor any more for 8.0.
-1 for doing this in 7.4 (seems too risky for little user benefit).
