Hi there,
With XE 1.7 we're going to release some features that don't have the
final planned UI (insert link, image, macro, table for example).
We're still discussing the final UI designs but I'd like that we get
started doing 2 things:
Re the implementation roadmap I feel it would be good to (iteratively)
release the UIs in 1.7.x releases (1.7.1, 1.7.2, etc) as fast as we
can. The reason is that we initially wanted to have them in 1.7 final
and we're late since the wysiwyg implementation took longer than
planned. Waiting for 1.8 would be too long I think.
Ideally IMO it would be good if we could have most of them done before
December end.
We need to know if that's possible and define a roadmap.
We don't think it's possible to have the UI implemented till the end
of december for the following reasons:
1) We must take into account that december is .. december, with its
days off so we should count 3 weeks and not 4.
2) Fixing bugs of the current features will keep the WYSIWYG team busy
for around 2 weeks.
3) Implementing the design will take time because we need to look for
widgets that offer some of the functionalities that we want (in which
case we'll loose time customizing them, and from the bad experience
Marius had with GWT widgets he think we'll spent some time on this) or
implement our own widgets but this will take even more time.
You're right to say that waiting for 1.8 is too long, we could do the
following :
- Release 1.7.1 around december 15th with WYSIWYG bugfixes, probably
some minor UI improvements (no use of an external widget toolkit).
- Prepare a WYSIWYG UI roadmap ending during january end (just before
1.8M2), release XE 1.7.2 somewhere during the last week of january.
WDYT ?
