The examples I'm reading about have a lot of code in them. I don't see
global.vm in my objects at all.
I still don't see where that code is coming from even in the defult
skin. I don't want to override each new page with a different skin, I
just want to modify my defult skin to display the way it should like the
xwiki.org pages I want it to show the last modified and date created
next to each other. Not on different parts of the page.
You need to edit the XWiki.XWikiSkins class to add the missing properties:

Or you can upload a text file called docextra.vm to your XWiki.DefaultSkin
page and it will override the server's docextra.vm file.

Oh ok. So I need to get into the actual server
that Xwiki is installed
in to change some of the layout options?

I hit view page source. This is in the Page source and adds the
tags[+] on the bottom left and created by on the right.
Where is this coming from. My xwiki page code has nothing like that
at
all anywhere in it! This is also site wide, not
just on this page.
Where can I go to edit this?
In the file system, go to: webapps\xwiki\skins\colibri\docextra.vm
Tags are in webapps\xwiki\templates\documentTags.vm
