It is needed mostly because it makes the tables fill the whole space
(width 100%).

Indeed, I think the default table colors should be good enough. I'll
remove the colors. The only important rule in there is the width.
3) The colors used are really not nice. The light gray
makes reading
column headers and figures very hard. The default colors from the
Toucan skin are much better for example
