Hi Pascal, Since maven is a build tool, you need to have the Java JDK installed. Just the JRE is enough for maven to start, but not enough to do it's work (which is to build software). Even if running the xar:format goal is not exactly building a java project, the dependencies are set up for a build environment, so I believe that installing the jdk package (that contains the java build tools, mainly the "javac" command/compiler) will do the trick for you and install you the needed dependency.
