Making it configurable seems negative so no configuration yet.
Here come the big patches for XE and applications trunk.
In fact I need a vote for applications as theses are used in 1.5 :
1) create a branch for each of them
2) rename it and XE 1.5 will have some page containing .xml in its XAR
package (this is not a problem core support importing pages with any
names since before 1.0 AFAIK)
3) do nothing

I prefer not to create the branch for the moment since Jerome isn't
working on captchas and it's easier for everyone to keep trunk 1.5
until RC (planned for the beginning of next week), is it ok for
everyone ?

I would prefer 1.6 since 1.5 is in RC phase but I'm not critically
against 1.5
