Thanks Jean, for the pointer on setting the Registration prefs.
Just wanted to make sure if that is all we need.
I have entered my email id as the Admins email id and have entered a valid
smtp mail server.
should I add anything in the Validation, Confirmation or invitation email
content.
should I say "Yes" for the first field - Use email verification. it is not
set to anything right now!
Is there a need to restart xwiki (tomcat) for the changes to take affect!

You need to set the admin email and a valid smtp server in
Administration > Preferences > Registration

No, you don't have to put anything in those fields.

watchlist...
It does not seem to work.
I am not receiving any mail saying that the page I am watching has changed.
(I actually modified the property values of an object that is associated
with the page..)
what should I do to troubleshoot this ...
Is there anything special about the admin email id. what is the purpose of
that is?
Please advice.

Debug tips :
- Go to the scheduler space home : /xwiki/bin/view/Scheduler/
- edit the watchlist hourly job and set the CRON to "0 * * * * ?"
(this will make the watchlist send an email every minute)
- go back to the scheduler space home : /xwiki/bin/view/Scheduler/
- unschedule the watchlist hourly job
- schedule the watchlist hourly job
- look what happens in xwiki.log

hmmm..
I tried that..but the xwiki.log does not show anything and I am not
receiving any mail either.
I remember, Sergiu mentioning something about setting up a Sendmail Server
..So, do I have to do it (eventhough I have provided an SMTP server name)
How do I go about setting the sendmail server. (Could that be the the reason
for the watchlist not working fine for me?)
What is the purpose of the MailSender Plugin that is already included in the
wiki.
