Thanks a lot, Dennis. Following your instructions I
post my
discussions following on xwiki-dev to see if any one would be
interested and act as my mentor for SoC.
I'm interested in the idea because recently I experimented with the
Live Clipboard which seems to implement the same functionalities. The
technologies and ideas behind it are quiet straightforward and easy to
implement:
http://spaces.msn.com/editorial/rayozzie/demo/liveclip/liveclipsample/clipb…
Does this looks like the thing you want in XWiki?
There are, however, some differences compared to the idea originally
presented here:
1. Not any content on any site can be selected and cut/pasted. The
contents to be copied from must support Live Clipboard as well. This
may sounds like a big turnoff, but think again, the "any" requirement
is quiet demanding. If the copy-from webpage is not cooperative, we
don't get much structure info from the copied contents therefore
limits our ability to handle them and paste to XWiki.
2. No intelligence is required on the paste side to identify the
copied contents. All required info is avilable through the Live
Clipboard copy. If needed, some on the fly decision may be made
concernng how the server shall handle the copied contents before the
POST.
The implementation is basically AJAX. I can deal with that. But I do
need help from someone who's familiar with XWiki structure and
implementation to guide me through the POST implementation.
If someone from XWiki is interested in this idea and would like to be
my mentor, please contact me so we can work out a plan.
Thanks,
Zhiwu

Zhiwu,
Even though I submitted the idea, the mentor position is open
to whomever wants to run with it. I may not have the time to
mentor anyone but I do have a J2EE background and teach J2EE at my
local community college.
Please post your questions, and I'll clarify as best I can on
the original intent of the functionality. The current intent of
functionality can be re-scoped as needed. I may have students
interested in building similar functionality but have not proposed
the idea to them yet.
Kind Regards,
Dennis

Hi,
I'm a student interested in the idea of
WebBrowserOne-clickInstantContentSelectionOrURLPosting described in
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Projects/WebHome
and would like to refine the idea with the mentor. Could please the
mentor who initiates this idea contact me to work out a plan?
Thanks,
Zhiwu
