I'm +1 for view mode and left panel take too many place so : Layout2

2. why not letting the user to customize the administration layout as he
wants, meaning to choose what panels he wants to have on the left or on the
right in the admin page? I mean if the users sees that he needs more room
to edit application pages inside admin, he can change the layout...I really
don't see the issue
So I'm really +1 to keep admin in view mode.

New subject: [xwiki-devs] [VOTE] Overhaul of the administration, layout
I see lots of you are in favor of making modifications to the content
of the page (the view mode option). I would also be in favor except
for the points below. My main worry is that this leads to pages with
not only content but also layout/presentation code (navigation menu/
space selection).
Ideally I think these should come "around" a page and not be mixed in
a page. My reasons:
* It means we need to provide additional code, maintain it and offer
macros/apis so that other users can also use this new navigation
manner should they want to do that in their own pages
* If we modify the skin, these will also need to be modified and it's
additional work. Compared to the panels solution it's a lot more work
(for implementing, for maintaining).
* It's not consistent with other modes like the edit mode and with
general navigation we're offering. Some of you mentioned that we
shouldn't use the side panels for admin navigation since it's not
consistent with the Panels Wizard which requires view mode. Actually
the Panels wizard doesn't require view mode. It requires a special
Design View that makes left and right panels appear according to
user's selection and the ability to move panels around. We should
definitely not choose a general solution because one admin option (the
Panel Wizard) requires a different mode.
* Last it seems you don't agree with the notion of View (aka
Perspectives). For example in Eclipse there's a Java perspective, a
Debug perspective, a Repository one, etc. the rationale is that once
you have a certain amount of data to present it's just too heavy to
put them all on a single page as this page becomes messy. My take is
that it's natural that the edit mode has a special View, that normal
page browsing has another and that Admin has yet another. This is what
means the cleanest possible interface by far IMO and uses the best the
browser's view space.
I really think we're starting (or continuing/making it worse) a bad
trend of putting layout/presentation inside pages whereas they should
be "around" pages but apparently I'm the only one to think so.
Thinking about this if we had a top banner space for putting
navigation panels in there that would suit me much better.
I know that I'm in the minority so I'll bend to the general agreement.
