I've just added a new iteration:

Thanks.
I still don’t like that it takes more vertical space and that it doesn’t
solve the general problem of notifications.
There is a little variant with the "badge" displayed in the same line than
the last modification date. It does not take more vertical space.
Why not implement the notification area in the top menu bar as discussed
in a few places?
I don't understand how the state of the current page (is it watched by the
current user or not?) is related to "notification". To me, notifications
are relevant to inform the user that a new message has been received or
that a watched page has been modified, but not to inform about the state of
the current page. In other words, notifications are about "events", and not
about "state".
Thanks,
Thanks
