Hi,
it 2 different applications.
Are you sure version 2 is not going to replace version 1 in
production ever? I had the feeling the were the same application but
version was the version 2 of the version 1 of curriki... At least the
names do seem to imply this! Thus I do believe they are the same
application.
i will not touch the other part of the
GELC project.
One more reason why it has nothing to do in trunk!
I just separate them to be sure to not broke the
build. It could have
been done in a branch. But I don't know enough svn to know why it
could have been better :-).
It's better because:
1/ legacy apps that are not touched anymore should not be in trunk.
They should be in a branch and you can still make modifications from
time to time there and release again a version if you want
2/ because you are manually doing a versioning whereas the major
feature of a SCM is to do the versioning for you. Just to give you
another example, we could also have several directories in xwiki/
xwiki/trunk/0.9.840, 0.9.1252, 1.0-beta-2, etc. but this is not the
right way of doing it because when one version is out it *replaces*
the other one as gelv2 will do eventually.
3/ It sends a clear message to everyone that the current development
is on v2 and not v1. As a consequence anyone doing a checkout will
NOT have to checkout or update v1 whenever they checkout/update the
trunk.
I think we will merge this 2 later.
There's no need to merge anything...
It's faster for me to do like this
right now.
All that is needed are the following steps (a 30 seconds job):
* create a branch for gelcv1
* rename the trunk from gelcv2 to gelc (or something else like
curriki but without putting any version in the name as versionning is
handled by the SCM)
If you don't know how to do this I can do them for you... ;-)
And still this will need refactoring at the end of R2
because I created widget but didn't separate them in projects
(intellij does not support it with the 6.0.3 version, maybe the last
one). Some can go to the xwiki core, some other are specific to
curriki.
I don't understand how this part is related to the branch creation.
Thanks Jeremi, I'm happy to help you if need be

Jeremi,
Do you think you could use branches and thus benefit from the
versioning feature of SVN? :-)
The idea is:
* Create a 1.0 branch and move gelcv1 to it
* Make the trunk be the 2.0 version
WDYT?
Thanks
