Hi,
You can use some of XWiki's module's independently of XWiki: see
xwiki-commons and xwiki-rendering.
However, the rest of the core features, like page editing as you have
mentioned, are not separable from XWiki.
Please define/detail what you mean by "build my project on XWiki", since it
can mean:
1) Use some maven artefacts in your own Java application
2) Create an XWiki component/application and use it inside a running XWiki
instance.
Also, if you are going for 1) and you need some submodules from
xwiki-commons or xwiki-rendering, you don`t have to build them yourself,
just use maven and depend on the binaries that are built by our Continuous
Integration setup.
