Thanks for the quick reply. I have now discovered
this is sort of
my fault, although some might say RTFM :-). My problem was that
I did the install just as I had done previously with 0.9.840,
rather than a detailed read of the instructions.
I feel the following is not stressed sufficiently in the
documentation, ie Administrators guide - Installation.
Following a succesful base install of Xwiki....
a) It is essential to import the file xwiki-1.0-beta-3.xar
b) It is a good idea to import file xwiki-application-panels.xar
I believe the documentation stresses that the easiest is to
install the standalone version of XWiki. This standalone version
already includes the default wiki and it's using a HSQL DB.
Yes. Good point. But I am well set up with mySql both for
production and development which is why I started there. However, I
could easily backtrack and use HSQLDB if you think it would improve
my learning curve?
Using MySQL is fine, especially if you've already gone through the
configuration steps and it's working fine for you...
Just one note:
if you import the 1.0 beta 3 XAR file you won't
need the panels XAR as it's included in the former. The panels app
XAR is only required for users upgrading from an existing install
and who want to keep their exsiting pages.
OK. That was not clear to me.
So really the documentation should simply state somewhere.
For upgrading - download xwiki.WAR + panels XAR
First Time users - download xwiki.WAR + xwiki.XAR
I've tried to improve the documentation but I believe the information
was already there. On the installation page (
http://www.xwiki.org/
xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Installation) we had:
"If you need to migrate an existing XWiki installation, check the
[Release Notes>Main.ReleaseNotes]."
and in the manual installation seciton:
"
You'll need to perform 2 mandatory steps:
* Install and configure a Servlet Container
* Install and configure a relational database
This will results in a minimal empty wiki installation. You may want
to use the Import/Export tool to import some pages in your wiki. We
recommend that you import the provided default XAR.
"
I've added some syntax coloring for better visibilty.
Let me know how we could add it further, thanks.
Thanks
-Vincent
