I think the hsqldb package is build to do shallow automated tests that were
testing minor stuff on the main wiki IIRC. Subwiki creation and testing
could not be performed since embedded databases like hsqldb and derby

Why is that? Because you don`t want to risk losing the existing databases
or why?
So is Derby or Postgres supported ? Is there a way to test with it and
maybe we could build a package for a supported DB.
Well, as you can see in http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-1740 Derby is
also not yet supported, just like HSQLDB.
Sergiu or Thomas should know better what the status on that is.
Postgresql should work, but this is just an assumption.

What do you mean by test and avoid MySQL?
There is a method in the protected api: XWiki.isMySQL() that we could use
to display a proper message instead of trying to install the template on
a
non MySQL database.
