If there is no way, when is XE 1.4 released?
It is possible to replace prototype 1.4 with 1.5, but you will have to
do it yourself. Normally the upgrade should not cause any problems, but
it seems that there is an incompatible change somewhere, as some things
stop working. Evelina did the upgrade to 1.6, so maybe she has some tips
on what must be done.
By the way, there are many files called prototype.js in xwiki, the only
one that is actually used is the one in
/skins/albatross/rico/prototype.js, so this is the one that you must
upgrade.
