I installed b2, and thought I would feed back a couple of comments/questions,
not to be critical - we have been using xwiki for a year or two and love it.
I can't remember seeing in the release notes that b2 requires jdk 1.5.
It might be worth mentioning that after upgrade and before panel
installation the screens go a bit crazy.
Is there an easy way to make the panels layout look a bit like 0.9.840?
Maybe there is a layout I could import somehow?
I didn't see a link to Main.KnowledgeBase anywhere. This is our main page
from which everything branches out. Maybe this is because I am unfamiliar
with Panels. In the end I edited the home page and manually put a link on
it.
I saw a few exceptions go by. Here is one:

We're trying to make XWiki work in 1.4 again. Currently, there are 2 issues
blocking this:
1. The XWiki eXo integration part, which requires eXo, which requires J1.5.
This will be transformed into an optional component, so eXo will not block
the build on 1.4 platforms.
2. The recently introduced ConcurrentHashMap, that prevents a deadlock, and
which is part of J1.5. We're looking for a library that provides the same
functionality, but compiles in J1.4
The above exception was traced down and fixed just yesterday.

That said, I think I read somewhere that Sun had dropped support for
1.4 (is that true or I am dreaming it?). If this is true it might be
good to continue supporting 1.5. I guess we need to check if there
are any users out there who absolutely require 1.4 in production. We
might want to have a special build for them while making the standard
build work on 1.5.

Java 1.4 is still a safety standard on some of the major Linux distributions
(Blackdown JDK). It will be hard to convince that many sysadmins to change
the distro or to install "untrusted" packages. So we must still support Java
1.4, at least for a while, until Java really gets Open Source and gets
accepted by the GPL-addicted community.
