[xwiki-devs] [Idea] Improving component unit testing setup

Hi, Just got an idea: Create an AbstractComponentTestCase implementation that does this in its setup/init() method: - automatically ask the Component Manager for the list of dependencies for the component under test (can be done with a generic for example to know which component class is under test) and for each of them register a mock implementation automatically. The advantages: - remove lots of boilerplate testing code to register mocks of dependent components (all the component descriptor creation) - ensures that top level dependencies are mocked and not deps of deps (best practice) - ensures each component is tested in isolation thus focusing on testing what it does - remove the need for the execution context or configuration source specific inits we have in current AbstractComponentTestCaset implementation - allow to call the annotation loader to register *only* the component under test (and its graph of components) rather than initializing *all* components for each unit test! This will multiply by x100 the speed of our unit tests I believe. WDYT? Thanks -Vincent

[xwiki-devs] Documents pulled in through #includeInContext have {{html}} macro removed.

Is this wrong? The test case is: create a document, put this in it: {{html}} italics {{/html}} create another document, put in it: {{velocity}} #includeInContext("Test.FirstDocument") {{/velocity}} view and observe result: italics html is escaped. I think the problem (if this is considered a problem) is that #includeInContext (or #includeForm) returns a String so the content is parsed twice. Caleb James DeLisle

[xwiki-devs] [Model] What's left to do with Entity References

Hi some notes (for myself to remember and for visibility) about what's left to do with Entity References before 2.2 final: 1) Continue migrating code to use reference objects instead of Strings. XWikiDocument class mostly done (but some work remain). Next to do: hibernate store, XWiki class. Then API package classes. 2) Decide how we handle velocity scripts. Either we handle reference objects in velocity or we continue to use strings. Note that some vm files currently do stuff like: $somespace + "." + $doc.name 3) Decide if we want to check for null names in EntityReference. If we do then we cannot use the normalizing feature for nulls anymore, which is useful. In this case we'd need to find another solution. 4) Implement extensible EntityType (ie not enum) 5) full retest of XE/XEM 6) Move to aspects deprecated methods as much as possible (except those that are required by Hibernate of course, such as get/SetWeb(), get/setSpace, get/setDatabase, etc). This means having moved all existing code to not use the deprecated methods anymore. 7) Agree on the need and format for object/property/class references (Anca's mail) Note that 1), 6) and 7) don't have to be absolutely finished for 2.2 final but the others do. Hello, I'm still digging into the XWiki grammar file and noticed another odd thing. Wiki parameters at the beginning of a line terminates a block. [xwiki-devs] Mismatch beetween classes and source for 2.1.1 version

Hi guys, I am working for a few days on XWiki... Congratulations, it's a nice tool ! I however got a surprise this afternoon ... I have to modify the class XWikiDocument, in the package com.xpn.xwiki.doc of the xwiki-core-2.1.1.jar .. It was not working as expected until i décompile the corresponding class in the jar and compare it with the source of the corresponding version ( http://svn.xwiki.org/svnroot/xwiki/platform/core/tags/xwiki-core-2.1.1/xwik… http://svn.xwiki.org/svnroot/xwiki/platform/core/tags/xwiki-core-2.1.1/xwik…) The class and the source does not seem to match ! Would you have any explanation ? Do you know in which tag/branch i could find the corresponding source ? I think it's missing some comments to explain it. Does it mean that we consider the deleted document as having been written by the user who's deleted it? (which doesn't make complete sense, does it?) [xwiki-devs] XWiki Document / Object GUID

Hi To develop the GBlog application I just took the XML from the Blog application and replace its content with mine. So far so good. But lately I see problems with Panels and I am not quite sure if this is related to duplicate GUID in the Panels Document or Object. So I have a few questions: 1) Where and by what is the GUID used? 2) How can I create GUIDs inside or outside of XWiki? Cheers - Andy

[xwiki-devs] [VOTE] Where to put the new Recycle Bin UI

Hi devs, I committed a friendly UI for viewing the contents of the recycle bin (just for documents, for the attachments there are some API changes needed), and I was wondering where to put it. Right now it adds another tab in the AllDocs wiki index, called "Deleted Documents", and I'm not sure if it's the best thing to do. + it's one place where all the things in the wiki can be seen + it's easy to find - the AllDocs page is getting crowded (another tab won't fit on small displays) - the recycle bin is not exactly a place with valid wiki documents A possible improvement would be to rename the new tab to Trash and also add the deleted attachments in there, as another table. An alternative would be to add a new page similar to AllDocs, called Trash, and which would have tabs for all the recycle bins. This could be linked from the QuickLinks panel only for admins, and from the "This document does not exist, there are versions in the [recycle bin]" message. -- Sergiu Dumitriu http://purl.org/net/sergiu/

Hi devs, As I mentioned already I'm modifying all APIs in XWikiDocument to use References (I'm adding new APIs and deprecating old ones). While doing this I'm also fixing names for new APIs. So far I'm modifying 3 things: - replace Vector by List - replace Object by XObject in API. For example: getxWikiObjects() --> getXObjects(), getObjects(String classname) --> getXObjects(DocumentReference classnameReference) - replace Class by XClass in API. For example: getxWikiClasses --> getXClasses() Note1: I wanted to use getObject and getClass but getClass is reserved already. Note2: in the new model we won't have this problem since we'll intelligently use another name for object definitions, something like ObjectDefinition :). Here is my proposal : http://gsoc.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Import+Export+other+wikis/Wiki+Impor… - A new Wiki model api ( Wiki, Wiki Page, Wiki Page Revision, Wiki Attachment ) which adheres to XWiki Standards. - Separation of Import process, Parsing the import data into a abstract wiki model will be a component. Clients can use it to make their own custom implementation. This abstract model is used by the other XWiki component / client code (Groovy & velocity ) to load the data into XWiki with standard features and little customization (like Preserving history, default names, attachments etc.. ). - Using the existing XWiki model api or xwiki-bridge rather than coming up with a new one. But the issues here is, i dont have all the things which are needed and it has lot more methods which are of no use in import process. Can i proceed with a custom wiki model like this. ? - As wiki importer process large streams of data, would it be wise to design the API more stream oriented and include few stream oriented methods.? This has been discussed on IRC but I wanted to send out an email before creating a design proposal and JIRA issue. Summary: Actions need to be ported out of the old core into their own components. It is important that the new Action model be in place so that newly added actions do not have to be ported as well. Current Situation: There is an Action interface, an ActionManager, and an XWikiServlet which work but design is not finished. Use cases: 1. When a browser supports gzip compression, the response should be passed through a discrete gzip Action component. However if the requested material is already compressed (images), it should not be gzip'd. 2. If the user is not logged in and the action they are requesting does not alter the database (Registration) the request should be passed to a cache Action. If the cache contains the desired page then it is returned, otherwise it is passed on to the requested action and when returned it is added to the cache. 3. If desired, a filter Action may catch requests depending on user agent, ip address etc. And reroute the request. Banned! I know that the old API should rarely be changed, since it is going to be replaced by the new model, but I think that this change is OK because: * I don't think the old API is going to be removed that soon * The change is not dangerous because it only adds new stuff, and does not modify or remove anything * The added functionality is very similar to the existing one for deleted documents, so it doesn't really add new stuff, it adds missing stuff that should have already been there for a long time. * It would be nice for our users to be able to manage deleted attachments now, not much later when the new model is fully adopted. [xwiki-devs] [VOTE] Packaging plugin changes for XWIKI-831

Hello developers, In the course of rewriting the import UI (XWIKI-4692), I've also integrated a modified version of Ludovic's patch for XWIKI-831 "Import wizard should conserve version history". It's not a huge refactoring, but since I'm deprecating APIs and introducing new ones, I'd like to be sure it's ok with you before I commit. The goal was not to rewrite the whole plugin (which would be needed thought), but rather to fix major bugs and make possible the "add a version to existing document" option upon import. As I wrote on JIRA, here's basically what the patch does: * It deprecated the notions of backupPack, preserveVersion and isWithVersions in the installer (or "PackageAPI") * It introduces a notion of HistoryStrategy (an enum with 3 options: ADD, REPLACE and RESET) that replace the former preserveVersion and isWithVersions which meaning was defined nowhere and was not very clear (preserveVersion came from the package.xml file, and did not mean too much except "there are history revisions included in this package") * It introduce a notion of importAsBackup to replace isBackupPack . This means that its no longer the package.xml file that decides if the package should be imported as a backup or not, it's up to "the one that import" (that is, to the importer UI for example; or to a consumer of the packaging plugin API) I keep compatibility with the "old" notions of preserveVersion and isWithVersions. [xwiki-devs] [VOTE] Deprecate all non-velocity APIs that use String for document reference and use DocumentReference instead

Hi devs, I'd like to continue on this work area but I want to be sure we all agree about this. For example this means adding a lot of new APIs in XWikiStoreInterface to return List<DocumentReference> instead of List<String>, etc. I believe it's fine with everyone but since this is going to cause a lot of changes I thought I should ask to ensure we are all aware of it. +1 from me. Hi, This is the current interface: public interface EntityReferenceFactory<T> { /** * @param entityReferenceRepresentation the representation of an entity reference (eg as a String) * @param type the type of the Entity (Document, Space, Attachment, Wiki, etc) to extract from the source * @return the resolved reference as an Object */ EntityReference createEntityReference(T entityReferenceRepresentation, EntityType type); } Now we have 2 different implementations: - one for which T = String - one for which T = EntityReference (our normalizer) In term of usage this means: EntityReference ref = factory.createEntityReference("wiki:space.page", EntityType.DOCUMENT); EntityReference ref = factory.createEntityReference(documentReference, EntityType.DOCUMENT); The last example is used to normalize the passed reference, convert it into the type specified by the second parameter, filling the blanks. I feel that Factory is no longer an appropriate name, especially for the second use case. WDYT? IMO a better name would be Resolver, Normalizer, or Converter. Any other better name? (I haven't put Parser since I don't believe it's correct). Examples: EntityReference ref = resolver.resolve("wiki:space.page", EntityType.DOCUMENT); EntityReference ref = resolver.resolve(documentReference, EntityType.DOCUMENT); EntityReference ref = normalizer.normalize("wiki:space.page", EntityType.DOCUMENT); EntityReference ref = normalizer.normalize(documentReference, EntityType.DOCUMENT); EntityReference ref = converter.convert("wiki:space.page", EntityType.DOCUMENT); EntityReference ref = converter.convert(documentReference, EntityType.DOCUMENT); It's quite a lot of work to change what I have put but since this is an important API we need to be sure of what we want since we won't be able to change it later on. [xwiki-devs] Need help reviewing and looking for issues after the xwiki-model commit

Hi, I"ve just committed a huge change to introduce the notion of Entity References in xwiki-model. Please all have a look and ensure you like the API in there since it's going to be very hard to change that after 2.2 is released. Basically every single class in XWiki will use xwiki-model in some not too long future so making a bug change there will be very hard in the future. Also, I'm pretty sure my changes have introduced regression in document name handling. Please help me test the application. Thanks -Vincent
