Hi,
In order to assure the consistency of visual elements, we need to have
some
standards. There is already some work in progress
at
http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Standards/
Things that mature and are final decided, will be added at
http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/UserExperience/
+1 for using $theme.highlightColor as much as possible for highlighting
currently hovered item.
But should the selected items be marked? It would be easier to know this
as well to be able to see the whole picture.
There should be a standard for active/selected item as well.
I gathered some samples here
http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Standards/ActiveStateItems
Unfortunately we don't use the color consistent and we don't even have a
color in the ColorThemes for this state (we've used highlightColor,
backgroundSecondaryColor or custom) so this can't be set yet as standard.
Anyway it should be a different color than highlighColor.
IMO the selection | highlight standard should apply and be the same no
matter of the element. Is should be a very special case if we break the
standard. That's why I consider comment header to be an inconsistency.
Thanks,
Caty

One of this proposed standards is "Items Hover State"
Whenever we have multiples items displayed, the hovered item will be
marked
with $theme.highlightColor .
http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Standards/HoverStateItems
We already cover this pattern in most of the cases, but there are still
some
inconsistencies:
- comments: only the header is highlighted;
- attachments, colorthemes are not highlighted at all;
- trees and WYSIWYG elements have a different color (I don't know if we
can
change this to use the color themes variables);
- maybe others?
Having a stardard for this kind of things it will be easier to know what
elements are out of order, and what needs to be fixed in order to assure
the
consistency.
Please vote for "Items Hover State"
Here's my +1
