This page contains links with all the discussion we had on
XWiki.org.
Feel
I have seen this page but it's a bit of a mess, there are lots of stuff
everywhere.
So does it mean Silvia is removing her proposals?

navigation;
I have a large screen so I'll be fine but I was wondering if the main
content area will be enough on 1024px screens with both left and right
menus
(when we display images for ex).
Doesn't it fit with one panel only?
Anyway, 2 panels are ok for me if we think they're needed.
* I
don't like the horizontal tab UI
* this way we state that menu is the Primary one, being horizontal
Horizontal menu is good (it's even me who proposed it initially! :)).
It's
just that they don't look like tabs (as
explained by the "don't make me
think" guy).

What exactly is so NOT "don't make me think"?

I think that Vincent's issue is with the homepage -> on the homepage you
don't clearly see those are tabs (because the main content of the page is
not supposed to be in one of the top tabs). That's what makes it disturbing.
On all the other pages it looks good.

* The Projects are presented in an *carousel*: XWiki Enterprise, XWiki
Office, Extensions + other Temporal Thematic Pages (major releases,
events,
etc);
ok cool, so it *does* scroll! Which is good since that's what I thought
it
would do without realizing it was a caroussel :)

the
left. I'd really prefer it to be in the main
content area, above XWiki
Enterprise.
* that's like the main purpose on
XWiki.org, not especially for XE
I understand now. I didn't know the main content was a carousel.
* I'd like that the main page explains that
the XWiki project is an
ecosystem of projects.
* this you can see from the big footer
It's actually already in the general description where it says "... and
projects developed on top of it".
> * "see what users have to say..." look really strange where it's
located.
*
it's aligned with the target
WDYM by "target"?
Why is it in green, located on the right of the header? Why do we need
it
on the main page? Cannot it be located on the
project page?
* Footer
looks good
* The 3 big buttons sounds slightly too flashy compared to the rest
* they are made to drawn attention - we can make them less flashy
* We don't see latest modified pages
* every space has custom panels. I don't think is necessary to see the
latest modified pages on the HOME page. If you go to the Documentation
space, you will see this information and also we can add other panels
there.
hmm... Ok.... we still need a general dashboard to have a global vision
of
what has been modified in the whole wiki but that
could be on the
Community
page I guess.

Ok now I understand. I had not seen that you had split what currently
exists on
dev.xwiki.org into 2:
- Community
- Developers
I think it's ok after all. This is not exactly what I had in mind but
it's
ok I guess. So we have a corporate-like web site,
except for the
Community
part.
>> Conclusion: I'd really like to see a proposal where the home page is a
>> community site proposal showing contributors activities (avatar +
names)
on:
-
extensions (
extensions.xwiki.org)
- modified pages in the wiki(s)
- mailing list messages
- code commits
* IMO I think this should be present on the Community WebHome and
Development WebHome.
Yes in Community WebHome then. Developers are part of the the Community
but
you can have Community members not part of the
development team. Said
differently:
For me Community = any way to contribute to xwiki (including being a
committer)
Developers = practices for committers
I'm still unsure if we should split Developers from Community but we'll
see
later on.
More Comments
=============
* Documentation should have submenus to see what product it is
documenting.
I don't see that in your screenshot. Also, we
need to decide how we do
platform documentation vs project documentation. Thus I'd like to see
Documentation home page.
* Same thing for Projects. I'd like to see the Project home page. I don't
understand the difference between Project and Document. For me, Projects
tab
gives a list of all projects, explain what they
do. When you go on a
project
home page you get to see more details, stats, etc
and a Documentation
link
that goes to the same place as the Documentation
horizontal nav.
* I don't like the "About XWiki" page. It's actually content for the
Community area. But we could rewrite it differently.
* "Get Involved" is that same as Community for me. We should remove one
of
them.
* As stated in the bullet point above there's a pb with the Documentation
submenu in the footer since each product has its own documentation. How
do
we want to handle that?
