I don't like our current @XWiki Twitter account, so I'd be -1 for
promoting it. Another (English) account which would just mirror blog

Hi,
I'm going to make the same case for Twitter I made on the Incubator :)
I'm +1 for a dedicated
xwiki.org Twitter account. The account could serve
both the purpose of a communication channel and helping our existing and
potential users find their way around
XWiki.org:
As a communication channel the account could be used to broadcast:
* XWiki releases and news
* XWiki events that the community may take an interest in
*
XWiki.org blog posts
* Tips about using XWiki
* The latest XWiki contributions
* OS events and news
+1 on these, except the last one, which gets a +0; it's hard to define
what is important for our followers in terms of Open Source/Free Software.
Answering questions and approaching potential
users:
* The go to place for existing and potential users that are not
inclined
to use the lists to address questions about XWiki.
-1.
- User questions can't be answered in a tweet, maybe just as "See this
pastebin"
- Tweets aren't archived and searchable, like a mailing list or a website.
- It's hard to make contributions to a tweet "discussion".
I was thinking of simple questions that can be answered by pointing the user
to the appropriate documentation. Otherwise of course it's preferable
discussions are taken to the lists/website to insure everyone benefits from
the answers long term.
* Attract new users by introducing them to
XWiki. These are people
already searching for an open source wiki, asking for recommendations on
Twitter. Their needs could be met by XWiki products, applications, etc.,
but
they haven't yet heard of the project.
-0, personally I don't like if a product approaches me directly:
XWiki.org says "Try xwiki.org"
This is too commercial, and a much too commercial push scares (some)
users away. I prefer recommendations from Real People.
Fair enough
