[ANN] Google Summer Of Code 2007 is open!

Hi everyone, Good news, XWiki has been accepted by Google as a participating organization for GSoC 2007 (http://code.google.com/soc/) :-) So far we have 17 projects we're proposing to students. They're listed on http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/GoogleSummerOfCode/. Just to wet everyone's appetite here's the current list: - Subversion Integration - Google Web Toolkit Wykiwyg Editor - OpenOffice Plugin - WebDAV API - Google Docs Integration - Office Import - WikiModel Integration - IDE Editor Integration - Social Networking Functionalities - Collaborative tools on top of xwiki - AJAX Interface Improvements - Storage Improvements - ApplicationWizard - XWikiOffline - GadgetsIntegration - FunctionalTestSuite - Skin wizard It's also possible to propose new projects (on the same page, at the bottom of the page there's a new project submission form). Configuration pb: incorrect redirection when authenticating

Hi, I'm new to XWiki. I've configured it behind Apache (XWiki is running on the same host and listening on tcp/7070). Apache uses a simple RewriteRule to send all trafic to XWiki. That works fine, except when I change the Xwiki configuration to request authentication of all visitors. In this case, the (unauthenticated) visitor is redirected to: http://localhost:7070/xwiki/bin/login/XWiki/XWikiLogin;jsessionid=22... instead of http://mywiki.fr/xwiki/bin/login/XWiki/XWikiLogin... The same thing occurs when my administrator session expires, but the all other links (including "Log-In) work. Seems to me like a bug or misconfiguration. Any idea ? Thanks for your help Emmanuel

But I am curious if anyone of you has also experienced the same problem: i.e. if you mix numbered bullet points and regular bullet points, you will lose the numbering and the layout changes quite a bit. How to change the Xwiki to other language, such as Chinese.

Hello all, I want to change the Xwiki to other language, such as Chinese. I read document this adress http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/FAQ/HowDoIChangeTheDefaultLanguage. But I still don't know how to change to Chinese. Do xwiki has something like language-pack which can put somewhere. Then user can change language conveniently. Do we need a forum?

Hi, We're currently using mailing lists and IRC (and person2person chats) for answering user questions. But: - IRC has no history (yet; when's that bot coming online?) - mailing lists are not that easy to browse and search. Should we make a forum for users? Pro - One place where users can find information, organized by topics - Users are used to posting on forums, and we might get a larger community Con - Soon it will get too crowded, and (some) developers won't have the time to answer all the emails; we need a strong community, and advanced users knowing the code, and for this we need documentation As a developer, I'd stick to mailing lists. WYSIWYG editor problem

Hi, Folks, We have problems to use bullet points in the WYSIWYG editor (in both beta 4 and beta 5 version). If we mix order bullets (1,2,3,...) with unordered bullets (*...), the WYSIWYG editor shows one layout, wiki editor shows another the View screen shows a 3rd different layout I experienced similar problem in previous versions of xwki (e.g. 0.984 etc). Both! Time ago I've had the same doubt with a group I have worked with. Sorry, I don't longer manage this group and it seems to me that their forums are dead. The solution that time was a free access license of JiveForum. I think this kind of license doesn't exist any more for JiveForum from JiveSoftware (http://www.jivesoftware.com/), but taking into account that this was some years ago, now you will find nice software with the same or even better features within ObjectWeb founding members!!! And I am sure that if you contact JiveSoftware you could reach some kind of agreement to use an updated release. I withdrew of using this software because the free edition doesn't allow me to manage the forum users database by connecting the software to my LDAP server. By using this software, it was a bit tricky to follow a thread if the title of a message is modified in a reply, but I think the behaviour is acceptable. I think I could create a example in one of my servers at http://xen.net:8090/forum/ or even move it to a more reliable server hosted in the Supercomputing Center of Galicia, Spain. Just my 2 cents! Looking for the right forum for user questions

Roles allow edit where they shouldn't...

When I set it up so that until I add users to a group manually, they are only allowed to view and register, XWiki is still allowing them to edit _their own profile_, no matter what. This defeats the #1 reason I'm blocking them from editing- the misuse of my Wiki for Google Ranking Spam. What they do is, they register, they put a milling links for spam stuff in their profile comments and such, then the add links from external places to there, and so forth, to scam Google into thinking lots of different sites link to them, then Google sees MY domain linking to the spam sites, and maybe dings me, TOO! If I set it up for no editing until I add a user to the "editors" group, I mean NO editing- PERIOD- *especially* including their profile! What is the coolest Groovy integration sample ever?

Hi XWiki lovers, I need to prepare a demo of XWiki and Groovy for next week (For Sun Tech Days in Paris) and I'd like to show some cool Groovy integration in XWiki (something visual like Flickr + Googlemaps integration in a Wiki page). I'm hoping that some of you have something cool that I could reuse for a demo (with full attribution of course. I can even cite the author's name during the demo!). Feature request: Named rights entries, or sort options

Only 'register' rights doesn't work

Hi- When I set the rights for guests to only be able to register, they apparently need some view rights to be _able_ to register- surely there should be logic that allows permitting them to view only _after_ they are registered? yep, Sure i dont see the daily number of contributions, maybe u're right ;) The only fact wich is difficult for me to understand is that there is only one english version even if there is some users that ask for french documentation..maybe they would like to contribute, maybe not..but where can they contribute ? You say about professionnal way, professionnal team and quality. Trying one french instance experimentation is a good way : i think authors must be called "french XWiki community" instead of "Official XWiki team".. Poor number of contribution on this instance will only say that there is not enough french users in the french XWiki community who would like to contribute on XWiki french website, and not that the XWiki or XWiki team aren't anough qualified. When you are saying about your experiment, i understand that the french version will be outdated, and i agree. You say about Jakarta Cactus outdated documentation that create a lot of feedbacks. I think a french user that discover XWiki website and don't speak english will create same number(even more!?) of feedback : FAQ / comments or simply don't come on this website... About the work needed to administrate this french instance, i completely agree. This is a critical point... I understand that this could be a main reason to avoid creating french version (for now ! :)). So maybe the official team could create the french instance with a warning "this website isn't official and is updated by users temself, please go to the official website for an updated content" or something like this (sorry for my poor english ;p) any way, thanks for your feedback Vincent. Hmm, I tried this and it still doesn't work. First, I created a CNAME, domain2.domain1.com -> domain1.com Next, I created XWiki.XWikiServerXwiki, added XWiki.XWikiServerClass (note: in the dropdown, it shows view.XWiki.XWikiServerClass -- could that be the problem??), set the server to www.domain1.com and the owner to XWiki.admin. Then I created XWiki.XWikiServerDomain2, added XWiki.XWikiServerClass, set the server to domain2.domain1.com and the owner to XWiki.admin. Then I visit www.domain1.com, it's fine. When I visit domain2.domain1.com, it redirects me to the no such wiki page. javascript error: wikiEditor is undefined when saving

Hi Just installed the newest and greatest XWiki - 1.0-beta-5.2310 and finding that I get a javascript error when I try to save documents. Message: Error: 'wikiEditor' is undefined Happens only when I save from the Wiki editor. When saving from the Wysiwyg editor I do not get the error. Running on Window 2000, Tomcat 5.5, MySQL, IE 6.0 SP1. My content does save - just have to wait for IE to tell my that it has an issue. Such an obvious error - makes me thing I have a config issue. Any ideas what is wrong?

LGPL w/r/t plugins - are they derivative?

Hi, xwikiites. I was wondering how you regard plugins that extend the capabilities of xwiki with resepct to LGPL license. Do you consider plugins to be derivative works? (I am assuming that they are not already derivative in tthe sense of being constructed on top of an existing LGPLed code base) For instance (purely hypothetical): Commercial developer "D" develops a type-ahead plugin that fills in names of people in his office. The system is so successful, that he plans to market "TAXWiki" - based on the xwiki codebase, but with the added feature of corporate-aware type-ahead. Would the LGPL require that D contribute the source code to his type-ahead plugin back to the xwiki codebase? Thanks very much, -apperson

Impossible to register a new user

Hello, After installation of xwiki (+Tomcat 5 + Postgresql 8.2). I would like to realize a user registration (inscription/register) but the proposed page is the same that for the login (identification/log - in). and so i can't add user, when I try, the system answer me: "Wrong user name" In tomcat logs i find this error: 17:08:57,046 ERROR http-8080-Processor23 http://localhost:8080/xwiki/bin/register/XWiki/Register SimpleLog4JLogSystem:logVelocityMessage:154 - Left side ($objuser.getProperty("usertype").value) of '==' operation has null value. Can't get XWiki 1.0 beta 4 and embedded Apache Derby to play nice

I once had an older version of XWiki running with embedded Derby under Tomcat 5 on Windows XP. I blew that away to start fresh with XWiki 1.0 beta 4 (still with embedded Derby under Tomcat 5 on Windows XP); however, I've run into a variety of difficulties. In my last run with XWiki, someone had converted the script to create the DB into a Derby-compatible syntax which I ran through SQuirreL SQL Client to prime the DB. With the latest version of XWiki, though, it seems there is no need to explicitly create the schema ahead of time. My understanding is that Hibernate will do this automatically when directed to do so through the XWiki configuration: xwiki.store.hibernate.updateschema=1 Thus, I have Tomcat 5 set up with a datasource for the XWiki context: <Context docBase="C:/Program Files/XWiki/xwiki-1.0" useNaming="true" swallowOutput="true" privileged="true" antiResourceLocking="false" antiJARLocking="false" reloadable="true" > <Resource name="jdbc/xwiki" description="XWiki DataSource" auth="Container" username="xwiki" password="xwiki" type="javax.sql.DataSource" driverClassName="org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver" url="jdbc:derby:C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/My Documents/Xwiki;create=true" maxActive="8" maxIdle="4" />  <ResourceLink name="users" global="UserDatabase" type="org.apache.catalina.UserDatabase"/> </Context> In the hibernate.cfg.xml file, I've commented out the direct connections in favor of using a datasource:  <property name="connection.datasource">java:/comp/env/jdbc/xwiki</property> <property name="dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.DerbyDialect</property> Trying this, though, I get problems when I hit my XWiki saying the schema XWIKI is not found. I connected again using SQuirreL SQL Client and indeed, there was no XWIKI schema (but the default, APP, was there). So I created one using SQL: CREATE SCHEMA XWIKI Now the schema exists, so I start Tomcat with XWiki and try to access it. Now it doesn't complain about the schema not existing. Instead it says it can't find the tables it wants: ERROR 42X05: Table 'XWIKI.XWIKIDOC' does not exist. I cannot understand what it takes to have the schema created. Any ideas?

Sorry to keep sending follow-ups, but just to explain, I went to edit XWiki.XWikiServerDomain2 and set the "server" field to domain2.domain2.com Then, I added a CNAME record in DNS to point domain2.domain2.com to that box. Then navigated my browser to http://domain2.domain2.com:8080/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ and it redirected me to the no such wiki page. Thanks.
