[xwiki-devs] Convert object content when changing the document syntax

Hi devs, I need some help to decide what is the best to convert objects when changing the syntax. The problem is that we can't just extend the content conversion javascript to the objects because the way edit mode works the wiki/WYSIWYG and objects edit modes are isolated: the page is reloaded and content lost when switching to objects are reloaded for database. So I can see some way to do some more clean that others: 1) refactor the general edit mode to load everything and switch between content/objects without reloading the page or at least without loosing content like we do for WYSIWYG/content switch 2) let the content conversion work as it is and convert and save the objects 3) convert and save everything I think 1) would be the best, I think the user should not loose content when switching objects/content anyway. But this looks like too big for 1.8.1 which need the objects converted when content is converted. 2) is wrong IMO because this mean we will have a 2.0 document with 1.0 content/2.0 objects in it until the user save the document and worst if the user does not save the content. I think we should do 3) (with a warning to the user saying that this change can be reverted in the history) waiting for 1). WDYT ? -- Thomas Mortagne

Hi, Yesterday I have successfully build XWiki from command line and load its core platform to eclipse. And I am working with Ubuntu Linux and my environment is all set up with XWiki development tools now and from today night onwards it would be great to start some sort of development. I have to study some tutorials to get familiar with the platform more. Question on Jabber integration Please help me on deciding this. Regarding my development, should I have to come up with a component that integrates to XWiki Enterprise that will provide Jabber integration with XWiki Enterprise? or should it integrate with XWiki platform directly ?. I am still learning XWiki and sometimes this could be a bad question here. I think once I get done with the tutorials it would be fine. Hi all, I tried getting source of old photo album application from this url. http://svn.xwiki.org/svnroot/xwiki/platform/xwiki-applications/trunk/photoa… I installed maven and integrated it with netbeans 6.5 and when i tried to get the project first it loaded all the dependency jar files and finally it say that it can't find the resource of photo album application Unable to find resource com.xpn.xwiki.platform.applications:xwiki-applications:jar:20-SNAPSHOT' in repository xwiki-applications-repo ( http://svn.xwiki.org/svnroot/xwiki/platform/xwiki-applications/trunk/photoa… ) Is there any other way to get the source of this photo album thanks in advance.

I am happy to see: * Ippei (2007) still active on the Mac build despite having joined the workforce. * León (2007) still active on FreePV and applying to VLC this year to add panorama playing capabilities there in a joint project that the two organizations have tried to set up since last year. * Zoran (2007) went on mentoring in 2008 and is still around despite being very busy in his new job. Out of five 2007 students that's not bad. Of the other two students one was a superstar. Her code is great. She has moved on. The other one we had to fail, but it was a good learning experience for both. He completed his 2008 GSoC project with another organization successfully, and we learn to introduce the patch requorement. * Marko (2008) still around, integrated his code long after GSoC was over. * James (2008) still contributing fixes. Integrated his code long after GSoC was over. * Tim (2008) ready to be a mentor or a student this year, depending what occasion arises, and still contributing. Integrated his code long after GSoC was over. * Fahim (2008) still active on his branch with the masking code. It's our shortcoming that his code is not integrated in Hugin yet because we do not really know how to evolve the user interface to make use of the advanced tool he developed. * Onur (2008), who with Zoran has worked on one of the most demanding projects of ours, and is still around but busy with his academic career. Right now we'd need somebody to pull the strings together and bind his project, with Zoran's 2007 project, into the Holy Grail of a patent- free control points generator. Out of five 2008 students. Well, there was a sixth, together with VLC, but he desisted because he got a full time job. We hope to catch up on that project with León who is applying to VLC this year. I rather give one of the slots available to a deserving student - to somebody like Lukáš who was too young for GSoC 2007 and became a frequent contributor and committer without expecting us to be accepted as a GSoC 2008 mentoring organization and without expecting to be selected. Or to one of the students who have shown interest, passion, curiosity and humility (Dev, Irena, Joe, Yulia, and please forgive me if I forgot somebody of those who joined this mailing list in the last week). And I rather give a slot back to Google for allocation to a more deserving student at another project, than waste Google's money and the time of my fellow mentors on somebody who does not seem mature enough in my judgment. Wow, that was a long email! I felt angry when I started the reply. I feel better now. Should I hit the "send" button? I think so. I am still inclined to black-list you, but I may be wrong. Maybe you will see what in your attitude is incompatible with this community? Feel free to come back any time you want, the door is not closed. Dear, To introduce myself, I am Apurv Gupta, a student from ISM University, INDIA. I was browsing project ideas for GCoS and i found XWiki.org. Lots of projects here seems interesting to me specially- - Import from other popular blogging platforms - Google Docs Integration - Google Gadget and OpenSocial Integration - Survey Application - XWiki Jabber, Google Talk, Skype Integration - Calendar application I am a .net developer for last 3 years, working on ASP.net. I have good knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, APIs, XML, DOM and SQL. I also have working knowledge of JAVA and PHP. This time I have no idea about XWiki API but in a couple of days I can learn them. I request to help me how to decide a project that suits me best. All the application listed above fascinate me and at this time I am able to complete any of them stand alone, but as i said i don't have idea to integrate them with XWiki. Hello, I use XWiki/2.0 syntax and write something like: here is my list: (% class="myCssClass" %) * blablabla * bliblibli and it renders <ul class="myCssClass"> in the Syntax, I can see (% style="" %) but not something else and in the xwiki code I don't find where this "(% %)" is defined... can you explain exactly what is the meaning and role of "(% %)" ? regards Pascal

Hi devs, We have some use case where we don't need/want to call super.clone() in clone: the non modifiable Block like SpaceBlock that should always return the same static unique instance. Also checkstyle does not see when clone() actually call super.clone() but indirectly, using another method which call super.clone(). See AbstractBlock class for example. So I would like to comment this rule out of checkstyle configuration file in the XWiki verification maven plugin. WDYT ? Hello, my name is Gheorghe Ancuta and I am an undergraduate student at University of Bucharest, Computer Science Degree. I am interested in this project: “Anti Vandalism Filters” I want to take my chances with this project because i am really interested in everything that is related to security, protection, vandalism, cryptography, etc. and also because Java is my favorite programming language. ( http://javageekgirl.wordpress.com/ ) So it's the kind of project that can keep we awake at nights just to make sure i can make the best of it. Here are some ideas for this project, solutions for fighting the evil :) - implement an algorithm to check the message ( for example : using black lists, word/phrase filter(statistical filters), a Bayesian spam filtering, etc) but taking care that the implementation doesn't affect the non spam/vandalism contents, or as it was suggested on the mailing list, integrate with an already existing third party spam detection tool. - create lists: - a black list of ips (and, as it was specified in the project description,an integration with an anti-spam service that list bad ips) – although this is a little tricky because of dynamic ip allocation. - a black list of websites (because usually spam messages are intended for publicity) - a list of vandal users - a white list of trusted users These lists can be really useful: they will help improving the program because it will get rid of unnecessary processing costs: memory, cpu, CAPTHCA for trusted users, etc. - CAPTHCA integration for bot protection;use it at various moments: registration, adding new page or update on old one(for users that are not listed in the whitelist of trusted users), anonymous comments, etc. - give trusted users the possibility to watch their articles, or other articles they choose(sending updates info on email, for example). - allow users to report vandalism actions that passed the detection: these reports can be processed by an administrator so he can improve vandal detection. - allow only registered users to edit. - new users have a limited number of possible edits until they will be checked by an administrator : after that the users will be listed added to the white list, if trusted, or to the blacklist, if not. Limit the edits by setting maximum X number of edits per every Y seconds. These limits, X and Y can have different levels based on the registration date of the user. - have a stable version saved for articles, so that when they will be affected by vandalism, we can easily rollback the content. It is true that this will need more disk space, but it's a good way to have a backup for valuable data. *Technical skills: * I took this Course: Fundamentals of Java Programming -at Infoacademy in Bucharest, Romania which was finalized with a PhoneBook project. Besides this, all my programming activity is based on school projects. I have medium experience working with Java SE, J2EE, C#, Asp.Net, Javascript,c,c++ , Html, CSS, Mysql, Sql. Currently, i am working on this project:” Monitoring and Managing Local Network” (Details: Language: Java – J2EE tehnology + shell scripting, Database: Mysql, Framework: Web Server: Tomcat 5.5, IDE: Netbeans, Operating System: Ubuntu).*Other projects that I created:* Instant Messenger Website for Implementing the Getting Things Done Methodology + online journal, calendar, etc Application for Online Reserving Plane Tickets and a bunch of other little ones,on different technologies and subjects, as school projects *Others*: Ubuntu, Debian, Networking techologies. I submitted my GSoC student application yesterday. It was a couple of days later than I wanted to, but I got it written up and formatted. I was wondering if I needed to do anything, or should I just wait and see if I'm contacted? There were a few questions I was unsure about (not quite sure what you guys were asking, what level of detail you were wanting in the answer, etc.), so I'm definitely not opposed to making modifications and re-submitting. I just didn't know if you would communicate feedback to me, or if I needed to do something first. For example, I haven't completed a detailed design document yet, and I didn't know if that was something required for the application or not. Thanks a lot!

Hello! I just discovered XWiki and I am impressed! I have an open source OSGi semantic data server application. http://code.google.com/p/inqle/ I would like to add a flexible wiki interface into my application's semantic data stores. XWiki looks like a great candidate! So my questions: Does XWiki have an OSGi architecture? Could XWiki (or some XWiki bundles) be dropped into my standalone OSGi Jetty-powered app, and deliver wiki functionality? A challenge is that I use Jena TDB as my back end store (a native semantic database, non-SQL). My data is all semantic data (RDF). I got the idea that any old semantic object could be rendered as a wiki page, with links to other semantic objects. So presumably I would have to write some adapter code at a minimum. Could I replace XWiki's database with my own? Or could I make XWiki use my database in some way? Many thanks, David Donohue
