I want two long descriptions on my creating an entry page for different kind
of information. But even if I select two Description Field Palates while
customizing the application there is only one which comes while creating a
new Entry in that application. Can someone please suggest me the other way
of doing it.

Hey all,
I have created a new application(appwithinmins) from the create your own functionality of xwiki.
Now I want to add an entry, so I do add an entry on my application homepage. But I want to pass some default values in the form so that it remains there and repopulate the creating the new entry form.
Also is there any class or plug in that I can use to modify or change 'Add an Entry' function on the homepage of the application created.
How to do this? Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Hey Marius,
I have tried working with two Long text field palates and I have removed one content box. But now when I create an entry it doesn't show me any of the two long text boxes.
Do I have to change some where else also?? To get them displayed on my creating the entry page??
thanks

I'm guessing that you are trying to add two 'Content' fields. Only one is allowed. See http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-8585 . You should use the 'Long Text' field instead. See http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/App+Within+Minutes+App…
. If you already tried this then make sure the application was properly saved.
Hope this helps,

How did you create the redirect?
You need to tell XWiki you want to have the edit view, so maybe something like http:/<server>/edit/Device/Default+Device?editor=WYSIWYG might help

Hey everyone, I am using
$response.sendRedirect("http://<server>/abc?A=${A}&B=${B})
For redirecting onto another page. I also need to pass some variables from the url but this ain't working. Please help.
Also, I am passing four to five variables and the url is getting broken and only passes value until a limit only.
So, is there any kind of limit for the url length for xwiki specifically??
Also is there any other method for doing so??

Hello Christian,
Sorry to have been so long before answering ! Here's at least a
little patch that you can easily apply to make HTML macro secure. Note that
a lot of HTML macros that are in wikis default pages won't work anymore !
Note also that you need the JSOUP package (http://jsoup.org/download) in
your wiki libs to make it work, as this is the library I used for the
verification of the html macro content. For more liberty, you can instead
try to make a custom verification such as the one I made for the wiki
syntax, it's up to you :). To finish, note also that you should skip the
tests when building the new xwiki-rendering-macro-html package, as I didn't
adapt them (these test contains quite a lot of tags and attributes that
should be forbidden for security reasons).
As I probably said earlier, a cleaner way to do that is to put the html
macro in the platform code, and to add a check for programming rights. I
got something like that somewhere, but I should rework it a bit when I got
some time to do it. But at least this patch should let see how this is
supposed to work !
Of course if you have any questions, feel free to ask them, and I would try
to reply a bit faster this time ;)
Hope this helps !

Hi everyone,
I have played some more with Xwiki over the week-end, and some security
issues came up, namely:
1) User own profile:
Any given user has the right to edit his own profile, so far so good
when the given user is in normal mode and the edit defaults to the
inline form. Now things get ugly when he switches to the advanced mode
and suddenly can add/update/delete objects and rights. For example he
can delete his Xwiki.users object and instantly completely break his
account. He can mess up with permissions, like granting others
permissions to his profile.
I am using a custom authentication/sso mechanism and when I create the
user on the fly, I among other things, store the userId from our system
into the XWiki.users (added one Int property). Suddenly, the user can
even change that value...
He can also rename his profile, effectively renaming his username...
which in a sandbox environment might not be too much of an issue, even
if I find it a little weird that users can change their identity on
their owns as often they want but when the wiki system in coupled with
another system, it's just a disaster...
2) User in advanced mode
Generally speaking, users in advanced mode seems to be able to do things
that I didnt foresee with just the edit permission :
- I could grant myself the delete permission on pretty much any
page I have edit permission and therefore deleting the pages
- I could add/update/delete pretty much any objects on any page I
have edit permission including XWiki.XWikiRights instances which seems
to cover the ACL specific to the page. I granted there myself
programming rights, it does not seem to work however the ACL is saved
just fine...
Regarding the ACL, I strongly suggest that on the Access Rights page,
when the permission is blank (delegating upstream), the given permission
should be still visible (with a tooltip indicating from where the
permission has been inherited), maybe in parenthesis just after the
checkmark box. It is crucial that on any page/space/wiki, an admin is
able to review the effective permissions of that given page/space/wiki.
Otherwise, it makes reviewing permissions a nightmare really quickly.
3) HTML macro
This is more a question on the best way to make sure the HTML macro will
filter out specific stuff to prevent script injection ? From what I
understand, the macro cannot be removed at the moment but I am not sure
what is the best way to secure it.
Regarding 1 & 2, hopefully I am overlooking something but I looked
around and could not find any thing obvious.
Using Xwiki Enterprise 5.1
Thanks in advance for your help !

I'm guessing that you are trying to add two 'Content' fields. Only one is allowed. See http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-8585 . You should use the 'Long Text' field instead. See http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/App+Within+Minutes+App…
. If you already tried this then make sure the application was properly saved.
Hope this helps,
Marius

Hey everyone,
I have created a redirecting page in my Xwiki space(say A) which redirects every request that comes to it to other page(say B). Now I want to modify some things in the Page A, but cannot since its redirected to B every time. I have tried http:/<server>/Device/Default+Device?language=en and also http:/<server>/Device/Default+Device?editor=WYSIWYG;
but nothing is helping, with everything I goto page B. I want to edit page A
so please temme some other way.
Hey everyone,
I wanna read and access the variables passed in url in Velocity on different
Xwiki Pages. Please suggest me a method. I have tried something in groovy
and velocity but I want to use only one macro/language for it.
Thanks

Hi developers.
Tuesday evening, after trying to fix all issues that integrate Workspace in
XE made, I had a bit of time to work on this JIRA:
http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-9341 "Menu improvements when Workspaces
activated".
The idea was to quickly implement the Caty's proposal for M2 (which was
scheduled for the day after). I made it and I sent a pull request. I have
also sent a mail to Vincent to show him my work.
== Proposal A ==
There is some screenshots (Proposal A):
Logged as admin:
http://xwiki.kephpage.net/proposals/workspaces-menus/new-home-menu.png
Not logged as admin:
http://xwiki.kephpage.net/proposals/workspaces-menus/new-home-menu-non-admi…
You can get it from this commit:
https://github.com/xwiki/xwiki-platform/commit/8c1c1bac2cde30f9024525e50249…
(except that I have changed the wiki icon for this screenshot)
We though this menu was confusing and not consistent with the current menus:
- Why do we have a link to the *main wiki* administration when we are in a
(sub)wiki? Does it make sense?
- Why do we have the main wiki (called Home) in the left of the current
wiki, space and page? The fact that there is actually a "main" and several
"sub" wikis is only due to the implementation. We could imagine, in the
future, a new implementation where there is no distinction between "main"
and "sub", but where we have an independent "system" that allows the users
to create and manage their wikis. Then, it seems better to call the menu
"System" or "XWiki".
- When we don't have the admin right on the main wiki, we only have a
single item in this menu, meanwhile wiki, space and page has more content.
It does not look good.
- If you are in the main wiki, you have "Administer main wiki" twice: once
in the Home menu, once in the Wiki menu.
- The left menu has too many items.
== Proposal B ==
Vincent thought it was not good enough to be integrated in 5.2M2, so we
started to iterate until having this proposal:
http://xwiki.kephpage.net/proposals/workspaces-menus/new-xwiki-menu.png(pro…
B).
Why putting this menu to the right side? It's because, on the left side, we
have Wiki/Space/Page, where you have actions that you can actually achieve
on these Wiki, Space and Page. Actions like "Administer", "Delete" or
"Rename". The XWiki menu does not provide actions like that, it just
provides some shortcuts to navigate thought the wikis. It's more a "System"
menu, like the Profile menu, or the Register action. That's why we put it
there. Moreover, it make the left menu smaller, which is less confusing.
== Proposal C ==
We had also this idea:
http://xwiki.kephpage.net/proposals/workspaces-menus/wiki-menu.png(proposal C)
But we didn't like it, because the "Wiki Directory" and the "Main Wiki"
link are not related to the current wiki, meanwhile actions like
"Administer", "Index" or "Delete" are.
---
After having created the proposal B, I asked Vincent: "What should I do? Do
I commit it, without asking to the community?". He said yes, because he
wanted to have something to show to the community that can still be changed
for the RC1, and he applied the pull request.
So, let me list again the 3 proposals we have:
A - "Home" menu (Caty's proposal):
Current implementation:
http://xwiki.kephpage.net/proposals/workspaces-menus/new-home-menu.png
Mockup with the new skin:
http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/download/Improvements/PortalMenu/Men…
B - "XWiki" right menu:
http://xwiki.kephpage.net/proposals/workspaces-menus/new-xwiki-menu.png
C - Add actions to the "Wiki" menu:
http://xwiki.kephpage.net/proposals/workspaces-menus/wiki-menu.png
I propose to start a thread where you can all give your opinion, regarding
one of these proposals, and you can also bring new ideas. We must have a
consensus for the RC1!
0 for proposal A (the left menu is too heavy).
+0 for proposal B (not perfect IMHO).
-1 for proposal C.

Hi devs.
I am testing the migration from XEM 4.5.4 to XE 5.2 (local build). Sorin
has already reported some problems in JIRA.
For me, the problem occurs when I use the "upgrade all wikis" option.
Let me explain it:
= Prerequisites =
1. Install a new XEM 4.5.4.
2. Create a workspace with WorkspaceManager (called 'workspace1')
3. Create a new subwiki with WikiManager (called 'subwiki1') - I create it
from a XAR template which is xwiki-enterprise-ui-all.
= Upgrade, part 1 =
1. Replace the webapp with a 5.2.
2. Put your own maven directory as the extension repository. (in
xwiki.properties:
extension.repositories=local:maven:file://${sys:user.home}/.m2/repository)
3. Upgrade the main wiki
It works:
- For example Main.SpaceIndex is in version 2.1.
- In the "installed extensions" menu, I can see all extensions correctly
upgraded.
= Upgrade, part 2 =
== Scenario 1 ==
1. In the DW, choose "Upgrade all wikis. Choose this option if all wikis
are administrated by the same entity.".
It displays "All extensions are up to date. "
But:
'workspace1' is not upgraded:
- for example Panels.WorkspaceInformationPanel is still in version 1.1
- In the "installed extensions" menu, I see 'XWiki Enterprise - UI All'. It
has not been upgraded because there is no new version for it. It has been
replaced by xwiki-enterprise-ui-wiki-all.
'subwiki1' is not upgraded:
- for example Main.SpaceIndex is still in version 1.1
- In the "installed extensions" menu, I see 'XWiki Enterprise - UI All '
with the message 'Installed but not valid'. It has not been upgraded
because there is no new version for it. It has been replaced by
xwiki-enterprise-ui-common.
== Scenario 2 ==
1. In the DW, choose "Upgrade only the current wiki. Choose this option if
each wiki is administrated by a separate entity. In this case it's best if
each wiki is upgraded by its owner. ".
2. Go to every subwiki, logged as Admin. You will see the DW.
3. Select "Yes, this is an upgrade".
Note: if you upgrade a subwiki, the proposed UI will be XWiki Enterprise -
UI - Common meanwhile if you upgrade a workspace, it will be XWiki
Enterprise - UI - Wiki. It is normal.
4. You will see "Administration Application - 5.2-SNAPSHOT - Installed
version 4.5.4 is not valid", and the same for several extensions.
5. Click on "continue", anyway.
All is OK. In the "installed extensions" menu, I can see all extensions
correctly upgraded.
= Conclusion =
- The scenario 1 don't work at all.
- In the scenario 2, it displays "Installed version 4.5.4 is not valid"
which is disturbing, because everything go right in the end.
As Marius and Thomas explained me:
> When you have an extension installed with version X, and then a new
> version Y is released but with the id changed, extension manager is not
> able to detect it. Ideally the EM should detect this and propose the user
> to upgrade from version X to Y even if the extension id has changed between
> version X and Y.
>
How can we solve these issues?
Thanks,
Guillaume Louis-Marie Delhumeau
The name of the extension is webrtc-application.
The purpose of this application is to facilitate communication via
audio/video between users in XWiki.
I'm having some difficulty at the moment with github, but can someone check my changes and perhaps check them in?
I basically had to take the AnchorFilter out so it would leave the anchors as is, and then replace all the links in the main doc that were moved, to the new link reference.
Thanks
Dan Jones

Hi everyone,
During this summer's XWIki SAS seminar, several committers/contributors met and discussed about how to improve the project's quality even further.
Some of them must have been drunk because they agree to do insane actions :) Since they will probably tell us that they don't remember about it, here's the rundown as agreed at that time:
* Sonar - find rules and propose have them in build - Vincent
* After 5.X cycle, continue 1 day per week with rolling themes - Vincent to organize
* Create JMeter scenario in build (and run them at each release) to ensure we don't decrease performances - Marius [Sorin]
* Improve knowing what version of XWiki some doc corresponds to - Caty?
* Work on xwiki.org dev guide - GuillaumeD
* Improve skin on xwiki.org - Caty
* Lots more stats/live data on xwiki.org - Marius/Fabio
* Have one job per platform top level module on CI - Vincent
* Test framework to skip storage and potentially move some integration/func tests to use it - Thomas
* Automatic Build promotion from jenkins when all jobs pass to save release time and avoid slippages - Vincent [Caleb]
* Review/propose checkstyle rules to remove if any - Caleb
* Try: SCM jenkins plugin to put jenkins under SCM… not sure it works fine... - Vincent
* Make functional sel2 tests run on phantomJS - Marius/Vincent
* Send heapdump in crash emails - Caleb
go go go!
Thanks
-Vincent
PS: Seem I was drunker than others since I agree to a lot of actions ;)
Hi devs,
In anticipation, I'm also proposing to remove the 5.1 branch since several of its jobs are failing and I doubt we're going to release any update of it. Instead we would release a 5.2.1 if we need to.
WDYT?
Thanks
-Vincent
Hi devs,
Following our agreed practice of supporting only the latest 2 branches (master + latest stable) I'm proposing to remove the XWiki 5.0 branch in git and on ci.xwiki.org
FTR we currently have 9 issues with a fixfor of 5.0.4 in platform, 3 in commons, none in rendering and 1 in enterprise.
WDYT?
Thanks

Hi everyone,
Tomorrow is BFD 36. Our goal is still to have more bugs closed than created for the past 1400 days!
http://jira.xwiki.org/secure/Dashboard.jspa?selectPageId=10352
As of now we're 18 bugs behind! Let's fix some bugs! More than last week unfortunately. We've been "helped" by Sorin and Manuel who created a flurry of bug reports yesterday! :)
Here's the BFD#36 dashboard to follow the progress during the day:
http://jira.xwiki.org/secure/Dashboard.jspa?selectPageId=11696
Let's crush bugs!
Thanks

Dear XWiki users,
A French company (Smile) is providing an online guide of open source solutions and they're rating the different solutions:
http://www.open-source-guide.com/
They've included XWiki here:
http://www.open-source-guide.com/Solutions/Applications/Blogs-wiki-et-forum…
They provide their own rating but they also allow users to rate the solutions.
It would be great if you could spend one minute rating XWiki!
It's very simple and even if you don't speak French it's easy. You just have to go to http://www.open-source-guide.com/Solutions/Applications/Blogs-wiki-et-forum… and click on "Donner mon avis". You then have 6 questions for which to give from 1 to 5 stars + an opinion if you wish (you could leave it in English).
That will help the XWiki project.
Thanks for your help

Hello fellow developers,
I have applied the Calc macro to my wiki and it worked ok at least for trials.
We are considering to create one or two macros that would be doing the same or a bit more (e.g. include sliders).
But... where is the source?
Simply the xar?
thanks in advance.

Hi Federico,
This looks really strange. The failure happen during the update of the
database schema by Hibernate, to conform with the updated hibernate mapping
of XWiki 4.x. The errors says that a new foreign key constrains should be
added for column agl_id of table feeds_aggregatorurlgroups to the primary
key of table feeds_aggregatorurl, but that this last table does not have
any primary key which is really weird. Are you sure you have properly
imported the database ?
You may try to alter the table feeds_aggregatorurl to declare its primary
key as agg_id, but I am afraid you we fail on other similar issue for other
table as well, since this kind of error is really unexpected.

Hello,
I found that my custom authenticator doesn't fall back to basicauth. Can
you provide some execution flow/code snippets how can I check what of
functionality I have lost?
Thanks!
Valdis
The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of
XWiki 5.2 Milestone 2.
The second milestone of the 5.2 release comes with multiwiki support
enabled by default: users are able to create new wikis without the
need to install additional extensions. This is possible because the
Workspace Application has been integrated in XWiki Enterprise. Besides
this, the new release brings a Solr-based live search (to replace the
one based on Lucene) and the ability to track active XWiki installs.
Developers will be interested by the new WikiStream framework. As with
other releases this one has a lot of bug fixes (92) and improvements
(33) which make it worth trying.
You can download it here: http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/Download
Make sure to review the release notes:

Hello xWiki Developers,
I like to have indexed a pdf file with more than 500 pages. used search
engine in xwiki is solr. Problem: Only the first ten pages are getting
indexed. Same for other pdf files. Question: which parameter do I need
to change ?
Regards, Chris
Hi devs,
as I recently played around with the DW on a fresh install instead of a migration, I figured out the "Cancel" button does not what I guess most users expect it to do.
With a fresh install when there are no pages in the wiki, choosing "cancel" leaves one with a completely empty wiki where one cannot do anything, especially not
login to import ones custom set of pages.
If one really has a custom set of pages, probably one is experienced enough to know about the "superadmin" account.
(Even then one might expect from earlier version that it is possible to upload an initial XAR without having to log in, and be confused when it is not there.)
Unfortunately unexperienced users, who might just know the "standalone" HSQL/Jetty distro with their pre-installed pages, might be confused when they set up XWiki
"the right way". The typical reaction when being confused is to press the "Cancel" button, which normally is the "get me out of here" way to fix things if some unexpected
dialog pops up.
However in the installation process this is exactly what an unexperienced user should *not* do. At most "skip" is the right option, if the user really wants to see how the wiki
looks without UI.
I wonder if instead of "Cancel" a stronger word like "Abort" should be used. Or maybe if pressing "Cancel" at install time one should get a javascript alert saying "If you
choose this option you will have to activate the "superadmin" user in the config file, as no default admin user will be installed, and the wiki will be nearly useless without."
(message should appear only in case of a fresh install, i.e. if there are no pages in the DB, of course).
Additionally maybe it is helpful to color the button red instead of blue. (Well, maybe this is even all that needs to change to keep newbies from pressing that button).
Cheers,
Clemens
