Hi devs, I've modified http://contrib.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ a bit for 2 reasons: 1) to update it since it was referring to code.xwiki.org which is no longer there 2) to allow a growth path for contrib project. Ie they should have well-defined JIRA/SVN/Maven/Wiki locations when they start out but if they reach a certain size/visibility they should be allowed to grow. Thus I've made 2 changes: * the ability for them to have their own groupId after a certain size/visibility * the ability for them to have their own wiki after a certain size/visibility Let me know if that's not ok for some of you. [xwiki-devs] [Discussion] Space pretty names, how ?

Hello devs, I would like we start to think about how we should implement space pretty names in XE. Ideally, I would like to implement space pretty names in the course of XWiki 3.0. Here is an (open) list of options : 1. We use the space WebHome title. Pros: It's easy to implement, we don't need new UI. Cons: Can create a confusion between the space and it's home page, since they have the same title. 2. We add a new field in XWikiPreferences and each space have their titles in WebPreferences page. Pros: The home page title can be different than the space title Cons: It means the WebPreferences page becomes mandatory for spaces with a pretty name 3. We add a new class, XWiki.SpaceClass, that holds metadata about the space (pretty name, type of space, etc.). Each space have its XWiki.SpaceClass object either in the WebHome or in WebPreferences Pros : It's open to even more space metadata, like categories, or any other metadata we want Cons: It adds complexity. If it's stored in WebPreferences page, then same as 2. Today I'm more inclined towards 1. In my opinion this is an elegant solution that does not add complexity and that is not hard to understand for users of XWiki. Jerome.

Hi guys, Short story: Where to put the css which is needed by java macros (e.g. the columns layouting of the container macro) 1/ in colibri.css 2/ in a .css included on demand by the macro a) from platform resources (using ssfx) b) from the jar (using ssrx) c) from an object in a page with ssx 3/ refactor the skin concept and create a 'platform css' to store all these and not be affected by skin customization. Long story: I can see I've caused the web standards tests to fail for the trunk (http://hudson.xwiki.org/job/xwiki-product-enterprise-tests/org.xwiki.enterp…) because of the inline style attributes used by the columns layout of the container, whijch is now used on the main page. Now, I would like us to agree about where to store the styles needed by the java macros to work right, such as the container macro with columns layout. The options I see are: 1/ as until today (e.g. box macro, warning, error, info, etc), in colibri.css/toucan.css/otherskinwehave.css. I don't like this solution too much because it means that when another skin is used, things won't work anymore unless the person writing the new skin takes care of copying all these "things that must be there". The advantage of this is having a single .css file to load on page load, the disadvantage being that their css is loaded on all pages, regardless of it being used or not. 2/ loading of the styles on demand, each macro loads its style when it needs it a) from a .css file located in the platform resources, which the macro has to include using the ssfx plugin when is executed -- much like a wiki macro would to with a ssx. b) from a .css file located in the macro archive (using ssrx), which the macro includes when executed. c) from a ssx page c) has the advantage of being very very much more easy to change than a) and finally than b) which is the hardest to customize. But on the other side c) means the java macro depends on a page, which is not that good. Note that "cascading" customization is possible for all these choices (adding an extra css with rules to overwrite the rules in the default css for the macro) and that in my view, it's enough, since the idea is that the layout should be preserved no matter what (e.g. a user might want to add a red border to the columns, but not make the columns display as two paragraphs instead of two columns). 3/ refactoring the whole skin thing and creating a "platform" css, which contains things that should work regardless of the skin used. Pros: it's an adaptation of the current approach (1/), that solves the problem. Cons: takes longer, might be very hard to separate what's platform and what's skin. These being said, I think I prefer 2/ if 3/ is not realistic, and for the container macro at least, I would prefer to implement 2b). Thanks, Anca

Hi devs, Currently when we import an office presentation the office importer module generates an image for each slide and inserts it into the wiki syntax: image:myPresentation-slide0.jpg ... image:myPresentation-slideN.jpg Some users have complained that: * when the presentation has many slides (e.g. 100) the page is heavy because all the slide images are requested at page load time. * there's no way to switch slides using an user friendly UI. See http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-5785 . One simple way to fix this is to group the images and to add a class name to the group. Then it will be easy to integrate an image gallery that replaces the group (found by its class name). I made a simple image gallery to demonstrate this. Please check http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Improvements/OfficePresentation… . The class name used by the office importer module should be configurable and should have a default value (e.g. "gallery"). The office viewer macro can then be changed to have an optional cssClass parameter. It would be nice if the office importer/viewer would also use a default image gallery, i.e. request on demand the JavaScript code and the CSS for the default image gallery when the class name (e.g. cssClass parameter) is not specified. Hi devs, I wanted to create a component to define the interface for the skin extension mechanism: @ComponentRole public interface SkinExtension { public void use(String resource); public void use(String resource, Map<String, Object> parameters); } in a module in platform/core called xwiki-skinx-api or xwiki-skinx-bridge-api and then implement it with ssx, jsx, ssfx, jsfx, ssrx, jsrx hints in the skinx plugin. Basically the implementation will do nothing else but grab the XWikiContext from the Execution, grab XWiki from there, get the plugin api and call the use function on it. This will be useful to write code that needs the skin extensions but doesn't want to depend on the core (macros, for example) and it will serve as a bridge towards the future implementation of the skinx plugin as a component. Hello! I'm migrating my Xwiki site from 2.1.1.25889 to 2.7.33656 and I cant catch why only Xwiki 1.0 syntax is allowed. On editing Page Syntax combo box shows only Xwiki 1.0 and rendering also looks bit wrong. E.g. some pages show {pre} tags. I tried to change ../WEB-INF/xwiki.cfg file without any success. [xwiki-devs] [Proposal] Rendering refactoring: introduce the notion of original blocks to the core Block API

Hi devs, This is a bit technical but after brainstorming with Thomas we came to the conclusion that in order to implement "generic marker" support the best solution would be to add the notion of original blocks to the Block interface itself. This will results in 2 things: * adding new begin/endOriginalBlocks events (in Listener.java) * adding a CollectionBlock that is a non content block used simply to group together one or several blocks. We'll need it in the following use case: when a single block is replaced with several blocks, we'll need to wrap the several blocks in a CollectionBlock that has an originalBlocks field set to the previous single block. It's also needed in some other use cases, for example when a block is replaced by a leaf block (non father block), we need a wrapper block to group together begin/endOriginal blocks and the new block events. In summary the idea is to not require a new generic marker block and instead set the notion of original block in the Block interface itself. WDYT? Thanks -Vincent

[xwiki-devs] xwiki.org is down?

Hello fellow developers, I can't reach http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome while www.xwiki.org redirects properly (so the xwiki is down, not the apache). Something must be hanging wrong somewhere. That makes it that I can't commit it seems. Skol seems to be "working" since quite a while (more than an hour?). paul

[xwiki-devs] [Proposal] Make an UPDATE XAR of XWiki Enterprise standard XAR

Hi, We have a general problem when upgrading XWiki which is to not forget to exclude certain files from the import. The manual exclusion is something that generates all sorts of problems especially when done by less experienced users. These files are: - preferences - all and admin group - admin user - invitation config file - anotation config file Either we make a FULL and an UPGRADE XAR or we make a CODE and CONFIG xar (initial install would need both xars to be imported). [xwiki-devs] [vote] Move MacroDescriptorTranslator from the wysiwyg server module to the rendering module

Hi devs, in order to be able to translate the macro descriptors to use for the gadgets (for the moment, to be able to provide the title of the gadget), I would like to move the MacroDescriptorTranslator and its implementation from the wysiwyg gwt module to the rendering module. My +1 on this. We'd also have to refactor it to use the org.xwiki.rendering.macro.descriptor.MacroDescriptor instead of the gwt, serializable clone of it. About where in the rendering to put it, we could either: 1/ create a new module for it, under xwiki-core-rendering 2/ put it in xwiki-core-rendering-api since it's about translating macro descriptors which have both the interface and implementation in the api module 3/ create a new module for it under xwiki-core-rendering-macros My +1 for 2/ WDYT?

The XWiki development team is pleased to announce the release of XWiki Enterprise 2.7 and XWiki Enterprise Manager 2.7. The next release is going to be 3.0. This is a stabilization release, with no major new features to highlight. [xwiki-devs] Fix custom displayers for syntax 2.0

Hi developers, Ludovic recently raised the fact that custom displayers stopped working as expected with syntax 2.0 (the scripts cannot access the standard bindings). Ludovic also proposes a patch : see http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XWIKI-4904. While I don't really measure all impact of the patch, I think replacing XWiki#parseContent by syntax rendering can only be a good thing. Any other opinions ? OK to commit in 2.7 ? Jerome.

[xwiki-devs] [vote] Change watch from toplevel project to extension

Hi devs, today XWiki Watch is a top level project, toplevel in the svn and listed on the main page of xwiki.org. I propose we downgrade it to extension status and move its code appropriately, somewhere in the plugins and applications. Along with this, the standalone distribution (and installers) would also be removed. The reason for this is that it makes more sense as an extension than a toplevel project (it's an extra feature that you can add to XWiki by installing an application and deploying a couple of jars), and also because it has been on the backburner lately, and there is no roadmap to make a fully featured toplevel product of it. Also, according to this vote http://xwiki.markmail.org/thread/scrwsfqfm6b5h5zf I would like to release something from the current trunk (1.1M2 probably), compatible with a latest XWiki.
